3 year old with cold sores? What to do?

Hi all - -

For a few days I thought my DD's middle of her upper lip was chapped from dry weather? It was dry and looked cracked and a little brown. I started applying moisturizing products - no improvements. She has not been herself. And a little fevery the last 2 days. I lifted up her lip - and there are a 3 little dotted lesions around the sore area . . .which I now think is a cold sore? It is very painful for her - she can't eat much at all. She intermittently complains of stomach and ear pain (but doesn't persist with that - so that just plain confuses me) . .

There is no drooling . . .like when my DS had hand/foot/mouth . . .

I am thinking its just cold sores? Does that make sense? But why?

And my biggest question . .. .what can I do to help them go away and to ease her pain? How long will this last? I've noticed this being a problem for about a week and thought it was just chapped lips up until a couple days ago . . . .

Any ideas for us? We are on vacation to boot . . . .

Ambisol helps with the pain, so she may be able to eat something. (That's what I do when I have one that is really bad.) They are usually painful for about a week for me, and two weeks for my dd (6).
