Albertson's Baby Basics Formula packaging violates WHO code?

I was at Jewel today (Albertson's in other parts of the country) and noticed that their store brand, Baby Basics, has a large photograph of a mom feeding a baby with a bottle on the container. That is blatant violation of WHO code, right? I was wondering if a letter to Albertson's would be in order.

Sorry if this has been posted already--I tried to do a search and nothing came up.

Assuming we're talking US.... The US never signed off on the WHO code. No one has to follow it.

The US signed it but nobody enforces it.

http://www.naba-breastfeeding.org/nabareal.htm

"The United States entered into a consensus agreement in 1994 endorsing the Code and other WHA resolutions up to that date. The US also joined all other nations in consensus agreement in 1996 and 2001 on support for the Code and the resolutions being considered at each time. The Code is a voluntary agreement that has no legislation or mandates for companies to adhere to and no sanctions for violating. Therefore Code violations are intense in the US, with all formula makers and much of the infant feeding industry in violation of one or more of the articles or resolutions."

huh... why did I think we hadn't signed it?

angela - because it took us about 13 years to finally sign it, clinton did that when he was in office.

I'm reading Milk, Money, Madness: The Politics of Breastfeeding and just finished reading about that.

so is there no point in writing to them?

Well, you can write to them, but there's nothing (other than boycott, I suppose) we can do if they do nothing.

You can send records of violations to NABA, and while there is no enforcement here in the US they do keep track of who is violating the code.
