Dr. Bronner's as tooth paste?

Does anyone use Dr. Bronner's soap as toothpaste? I think I read somewhere that this is possible. I'm kind of scared to try it. I was looking at buying Toothsoap but it's really expensive compared to the Nature's Gate toothpaste I'm currently using. I'm trying to slash our budget so if Dr. Bronner's would work and the taste isn't horrible, I'd probably prefer that.

Any thoughts?

I have used it for my teeth before but I don't like the soapy taste it has, it's that 'natural soap' taste that I don't like. Try it though for yourself and see, the taste really doesn't last forever.

I tried it before and it felt like I'm washing my mouth out with soap. because I am - literally. I didnt like the soapy taste so I stick with Weleda toothpaste.

I wouldn't use it...I just couldn't handle the soap thing.

I use a tooth powder that is made by a local herbalist...it is made with baking soda, powdered myrrh, kelp, and essential oil for flavor and refreshment. I find it to be VERY effective (and inexpensive...a 2-3 mo. supply costs $4).

I use it for toothpaste. The peppermint. It tastes pretty bad, but I've gotten used to it. It cleans teeth better than anything else I've used. The clean smooth feeling makes the bad taste worth it. I like Toothsoap, too, but like you said, kinda pricey.

Just try it. Give it a few tries to get used to it.

Thanks everyone! I first tried the baby Dr. Bronner's I had in the house. It was okay as long as I kept it off my tongue and rinsed quickly. I did get some of the peppermint and it was better. I think I'll keep it up as my teeth feel great.

I make my own toothpaste and it is super cheap! Works great too! Best part is, I flavor it with Orange EO so even 2 year old DS will use it- he says it's yummy teeth!

5 tsp Baking Soda
1/4 tsp Salt
5 tsp Vegetable Glycerin
10-15 drops of essential oil (Such as Orange or Spearmint)

I use a recipe very similar to this and once you get used to the "salty" taste it's great! You can use extracts from the baking aisle too if you want something even cheaper, depends what EO's you can get locally.
My teeth feel super clean all day long and they feel so great! I've heard baking soda and salt are the healthiest things to use for your teeth. Even DP is using it!

I don't think the peppermint is bad!
