I am starting HSing this fall and I really have no idea where to start. My two oldest will be in the second grade. They both made straight A's in public school and currently read on a 2 and 3rd gread level.

Now my YDS, they want to hold him back in K so I am not sure if I should redo K or move on to 1st? He knows all his letters and the sounds they make all he basic K skills (colors, shapes ect) most sight words on the Doulce List, can count to 75 and has very advanced reasoning skills. (He has been heavily tested)

I am looking into the complete accredited kits avaiable at Homeschooling SuperStore. I am looking at the complete sets because I am not sure how or what they need to learn at this point so I was going with what the school does.

We are moving to Alabama in a few months but I already have my cover school picked and all the forms so that is done.

Does anyone have any advice for me? I am scared to do this but really do not want my kids in public school anymore. ( It is turning them into monsters!)

wow - it sounds like you are definitely more than ready!! i personally like to be over- prepared for things that are new to me too, so i fully understand the path you've chosen. my only real advice is to remember that you don't have to mimic school at home. in other words, don't let the curriculum dictate your every hour & don't try and do every.single.thing in your texts. lastly, if something clearly isn't working for you all, don't feel compelled to "make" it work just because you paid for it.

as for your son in K, since he will be at home with you - i would move onto 1st grade if you feel he's ready. the advantage is you can move at his pace so he won't get behind like he did in ps ....& he won't be overwhelmed with moving too fast because your his teacher now and can slow down to meet his needs

when you hit a roadblock, just come here for help. everyone is wonderful, & i learn soooo much!!! have FUN!!
