What are your growing, starting seeds?

So, what are you growing?

We picked up a test tube set so that we can watch the roots grow. We have started herbs and we are placing our seed order.

I am thinking of asking the kids if they want to start a picture blog of our seed/garden project.

So far only our tomato seeds for Tomatosphere. DS wants to start his TOPS kit so maybe this week we'll start corn and beans too!

We're keeping it small this year (only our square foot box), so probably tomatoes and broccoli. These are favorites with the kids.

With us, it's more "What aren't you growing?" Our spring and summer "unit" will be all about gardening, plants, bugs, etc. I've got it all planned out on our school blog (click the smiley in my sig) and so far we've been having a blast starting heirloom tomatoes, peppers, herbs, and broccoli. Later, it'll be squashes, pumpkins, watermelons, corn, peas, beans, carrots, onions, etc. I think Paladin is most excited about his sunflowers and pumpkins, though.

What's Tomatosphere?

We're getting around to starting some tomatoes and peppers today. Dd has a mystery plant that came up from the compost she used to repot a baby spider plant. We're trying to figure out of its a pumpkin or squash.

I have to get moving on actually starting some more from actual seed packets but we did start a few bean plants from dried seeds in our cupboard.

We went from this

To this

To this.

I'm waiting for the weather to finally start really warming up so I can move them outside.

I have a bunch of other flower and veggie seeds we need to start planting too. This week we are going to do it, I think, after they get back from the sleepover at grandmas.

Right now the only tings we have growing are sage and Dill. Right now they are in the little cups from a museum trip. More to come though.

We're growing spinach, mixed salad lettuces, cherry tomatos, and herbs The kids did a lot of the planting, have been making sure the garden gets watered (supervised to prevent a lake from spawning lol) and are just so excited about how much things are growing. It's autumn here, but perfect gardening time of year apparently.. because the small plants we bought (and planted some seeds) are now about 4times as tall as they were. They've learned so much about plants, their needs and how they grow without ever sitting down at a desk

Hmm. We dug a new vegetable garden last week, and dh fenced it off with the sweetest little white picket fence. It's adorable, and the kids are thrilled. In it we planted cauliflower, corn, peas, radish, onions, carrots and broccoli.

In pots and containers we have parsey and some herbs. In some flower boxes we planted sunflowers, which began to sprout yesterday, to great excitement. The kids also put in flowers in boxes and pots all over the patio.

Yesterday they helped dh put in two kiwi plants - a male and a female - with some discussion about pollenation, which was cool.

Last weekend they bought a miniature plum tree, which is doing well and flowering now.

Tonight we planted some sweet peas along a trellis. I'm hoping they will cover the garage walls.

They still have plans for pumpkins, melon, and some other stuff.

I guess our question is, what haven't you planted?!! I love it - they rush out to look at their plants every morning - it's too cute.

We planted a small patch of wildflowers. I figured they'd be hard to kill. I have more ambitious gardening plans, but I'm holding off on them until I know whether we're moving this spring or not.

Are you guys planting organic seeds? And if so, where do you find them?
