When will you take DC to the Dr?

Title says it all...

I took DD for a weight check when she was 6 days old b/c the hospital had made me paranoid about how much weight she had lost.

She had lost 8.5% of her birth weight by her 3rd day of life when we were finally released from the hospital.

She was, of course fine and had gained most of the weight back. The ped actually seemed a little confused as to why I had come. But the hospital ped and nurses had been so insistent that I needed to get her checked asap.

I'm not sure when we'll be going back. It will depend on what I decide about vax.

I'll go in after 3-4 days as that's when both my other two had worsening jaundice and I like the doc to keep an eye on their levels.

Valerie will have her first well baby check at about 2 months. I am going to ask the nurse to come and weigh her though this week I think.

I took Sonny at 4 & 5 days old to check his biliruben levels, they were a little high. And again at two weeks to get the second PKU done. I'll take him again at 2 months!

My midwife came at 2 days PP, 2 weeks PP, 4 weeks PP and I think 6 weeks. She weighs the baby, asks about his diapers, listens to his heart and lungs and checks his color. After that he wont go to a doctor at all unless he's sick with something he can't fight off, if he breaks a bone or if he needs stitches. I have no interest in taking my perfectly healthy baby to a virus and bacteria-infected doctor's office or hospital.

This is EXACTLY how I feel. My midwife came back the day after birth, and once last week (we did the PKU), and she'll be back at 6wks pp. I really have no interest in exposing her to germs (almost as much as I have no interst in arguing with a Dr about my parenting choices).

Never. (Unless a need surfaces.)

We went at 4 days old, 6 days old for weight checks. We go back at 4 weeks old, then 2 months, 4 months, 6 months and at 1 year.

We'll follow the midwife schedule which is something like day after birth, 2 days after that, 1 wk pp, 2 wks pp, 4 wks pp and 6 wks pp... something like that...

After that if I want the baby to be weighed we'll go to the breastfeeding clinic where there are lots of new nursing moms with healthy children, a lactation consultant and a public health nurse/ nurse practitioner who I can get advice from.

We'll go to the doc if there are health problems (I have no problem with doctors, I just want to save them for real health problems)
