My children come first?

I am not sure if this is the right place for this, but I find the Dixie paper plate ads really annoying and I would like to do something about them. They advertise that "my children come first" so I should use paper plates rather than dishes. That way, I don't have to do dishes and can spend more time with my family. That is just evil. So wasteful! I know they are trying to sell their product but that is so wasteful it is ridiculous.

So, I don't want to write to Dixie, because I don't think that will work. But, how would we as green living mamas go about doing something to counter this advertising? What do you think we could do to make people see that this kind of lifestyle is wasteful and our children's future is more important than the few minutes it takes to buss dishes?

I don't have an answer for you but I struggle with this everytime I go to the store and I see people loading their shopping carts with paper & convenience items and clerks tossing handfulls of plastic shopping bags into the trash. GRRRR!

I hate that commercial too. Yeah, your children come first because you can't wash a glass.

I second that! dd1 loves to help with the dishes.

I just saw that commercial tonight for the first time - I was appalled. I'm not really sure what you could do. I actually think a letter would be a good first step.

Yeah my children come first - and their children, and their children....

That is why I don't use paper plates. So they can inherit a planet that is filled with forests instead of landfills.

Yep, saw it. I made me mad too. It's nice how marketing these days has nothing to do with the actual product.

I was also disgusted by that ad. Excuse me....you're implying I waste valuable parenting time by loading the dishwasher, which takes approximately 30 seconds longer than chucking them in the trash? Hey, maybe I could just buy fast food for every meal instead of wasting time cooking! Or throw away clothing instead of washing and reusing! why stop at plates? : I'd prefer to think that by doing the dishes vs. creating more garbage, I'm not wasting any time, I'm showing my child the right way to do things, so that she will grow up to do the same.

I'm bothered by that comercial too. I'm bothered by the waste, and by the fact that everyone wants to find ways to simplify the most basic chores, no matter the cost

I haven't seen the paper plate ad but grrrr! I have seen the dixie mini cup ad with kids that basically says to protect your children from germs use throw-away mini cups.
