First Day!

Thread Starter
So today our official first day of HS.

We woke up this morning, got ready BEFORE breakfast (we used to eat breakfast THEN get dressed, I thought to switch it up to show today was different to the kids), and then sat down for circle time.

I have the OM K curriculum so I'm using it for now. This morning we sang "head and shoulders" (they loved it!) and I read the story that corresponds to the letter "A" (as OM suggests). We then coloured objects that started with the letter "A" afterwards. It was a little chaotic b/c my youngest was pretty cranky this morning (and wanted to be held), but we did our best.

Once my youngest was asleep for nap time (after lunch), we did some phonics and writing, which went sooo much better! We all had a lot of fun!

Any who, I hope everything works out and I can show my husband how great HSing can be. Anyone else have to juggle HS with a toddler who makes it tough to concentrate/focus (I can focus but my older two children have a tough time when my youngest is running around) through lessons?

Well, my oldest is in public school, but I do daycare in my home, so I always say that I partially homeschool!! This is exactly what our day sounds like though. After breakfast we *try* to do circle time, then discuss what we are learning about for the day. Then we go over our lesson for learning to read (I'm doing the book Teaching Your Child to Read in 100 Easy Lessons) and then it's outside time. When we come back in, we'll do our craft for the day, and usually we'll do some writing pages in the afternoon.

Yay! I hope you had a great first day. Do the best you can. That's really all any of us can do. I'm only home schooling our oldest right now (middle school) and that can be challenging (he is so slow at getting work done these days). Your kids are young so if you can't get to some stuff then you can put it off to another day. I still do that with my oldest child.

Good luck!

It would be cool for you to journal a little note so that when they are older and you reflect back ..you have a little snippet of first firsts !
