I think I convinced a friend not to circ...

She's not planning to get pregnant for several years, but I count it as a victory.

They were sitting in our living room and I was talking about Mothering (we both have baby fever) and mentioned the different forums they have no vax, homebirth, no circumcision, etc.

And she said, "How do you feel about circumcision?"
And I said, "I am really, really against it." Not wanting to get into it with my intact and her cut husband right there and make anyone feel judged.
But she said the thing that made her think about it was this women she works with has kid in day care and told the daycare worker she had to clean under his foreskin at every diaper change. : The daycare worker said that was out of her job description.
I told her that you cleaned a foreskin like a finger and that this idea of retraction comes from Drs uneducated on intact penises and how retraction usually causes the infections that Drs recommend the retraction to prevent. s:

She was SHOCKED that it was that easy to care for an intact boy. She had NO idea. Her DH just nodded and said, "I was, just because back then..." with a shrug. The conversation continued and I told them the big points of the anti-circ argument.

This is a victory because they said they'd keep any future boys intact, but also because she works with 3 women who already have 1st kids, but who view her as an informational resource, because she's better educated on these subjects than they are, AND pre med. Since they talk about pregnancy and birth ALL the time, and she exposes them to the idea of VBACs and not vaxxing, I know these other women will be exposed to the intactivist standpoint.

I just had to share. I come across ignorant pro circ stuff every day and start to feel like there's no hope sometimes. I should really be buoyed by the fact that the rate is so much lower than 20 years ago.
