If you needed a summer vacation... - Page 3

I would skip Chicago...it's a fun city, but it's huge and the traffic is a mess. I can't see spending a month in the endless sprawls of suburbs just to be close to a good hospital. Plus summer stuff is often fun outdoors stuff, and you'd have to travel a ways out of Chicago to have good access to those things. It'd be a great week-long visit, though. There are TONS of kid-friendly things to do in Chicago, and the lakefront is lovely.

MN sounds like a great idea. Lots of cute small towns, Mayo nearby, lots of lakes for swimming/camping opportunities.

Portland sounds GREAT!! Take me with you!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

How close to a children's hosp. do you need to be? If an hour or so away is okay, then what about renting a cottage in MN or WI? The summer weather is usually pretty mild, and you'd have two of the best children's hospitals nearby depending on where you rented. Mayo is top-notch, and so is Milwaukee Children's Hospital (both are top 10, I believe). Milwaukee is a fun city...tons of summer festivals, lots of beach, very safe, and a great downtown.

Cleveland...I have a friend who lives there. She says it's incredibly muggy during the summer months. My dh went there for a tournament last summer and he agreed...he just about wilted. I'm sure it's nothing to TX, but still.

Otherwise, what about the Boston area? You could do a lot of visits to Cape Cod, whale-watching, lots of historical places to explore, trips into the city... all that ocean air! Again....take me with you!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I agree with Portland also...the best cheese (Tilamook?) and berries. Also, nice scenery...Columbia Gorge and Mount Hood w/ the cleanest air in the country. I went there once to visit my aunt and fell in love w/ it!

Awwww....thanks! I pack light. You won't mind if I bring along a 2 year old, a six year old, two cats, and a golf-addicted husband will you?

There's always Virginia Beach...I'm in Norfolk about 1/2 hour away from the Oceanfront and there's a golf course a couple minutes away from me (and two more in VA Beach I know about, as well...lol). About an hour away there's Busch Gardens, Colonial Williamsburg, Jamestown, etc. to check out. Not that you mentioned the area or anything...just saying. :P

The more the merrier. And the cheaper it is to rent a place.

I've got an 8 y o and an almost 4 y o.

We love cats, and my dh used to be on the golf team in school.
