Look what happens when I encourage him to take an active part!

My ex had been having some reservations about me hs'ing our son. I've mentioned before that the child is, um, bouncy, to say the least, so going to museums and expecting him to be quiet and docile and just absorb the info given to him doesn't happen. Somehow, the ex thought it did.
Anyhow, yesterday we made a bet about how much info he retained from the one museum we went to two weeks ago. Ex's guess? The video games. Mine? A heck of a lot more?

Guess who won?

Well, the 9yo of course! He had a lot of fun! When asked about his favorite part, he told us some crazy stories about the Titanic and how we got better lifeboat laws from it and how they work underwater when the pressure is too much for SCUBA divers and how the AAFC sunk a perfectly good but old battleship for fun, and to win a bet and that's part of why we have an Air Force, which now uses the drones that had us on camera when we walked in.

Anyhow, dad is slowly realizing this is working, just not in the way he thought it would. I am trying to get him more involved in curriculum shopping so we went to look at a teacher supply store yesterday to find items for next year (fillable geometric shapes, history, science stuff). We found copies of the major U.S. documents and thought about getting those, though I have posters of them. Well, I guess the museum bet made dad open his eyes a bit about the way his son learns, and no, we didn't buy the copies yesterday.

We're going to see the real things today! Impromptu trip to D.C., y'all! We're going to see as many of the things we can that we saw on National Treasure.
