Calling all montessori homeschoolers! - Page 4

Hi all I'm joining in here. Your posts are great and also helpful as I am still a newbie at Montessori. Last summer I started reading about homeschooling and then Montessori and knew it would be perfect for my ds. In January I cleaned up our office and started putting in materials for my ds. I have made most of my materials and I was able to buy a few in April and have been very pleased with them, they were from Montessori Outlet (no chipping paints yet). I don't have the typical 3 hour work period because I run a home daycare and its just not possible. My approach has been to do lots of practical life in my daycare. Until a few months ago I had been working with my 4 y/o ds in the evening but now my dh is working in the evening so I also have my 2 y/o dd with us in the learning room and then on the weekend I spend a longer stretch with my son working. I am still settling into a new routine and making changes in our learning room. I struggle with my ds trying new materials, he wants to do the same few over and over. My 2 y/o dd is a very active little girl and it has been interesting trying to find work to keep her interest. She wants new materials all the time. I am planning a purchase again soon for Montessori materials. I'm curious to here others experiences with purchases of Montessori materials.

This is my homeschool blog

From what I understand...this is a good thing! Let him do those over and over...eventually he'll master and learn whatever it is he's working on with that particular material, and he'll be ready to move on to the next thing.

I'm also interested in your experience with the materials from Montessori Outlet...I just recieved a catalog from them and was very interested in their classroom packages that I've seen online. The PP seems to have had issues with chipping...how long have you had your materials?

Also, an idea...do you all think we should start one post that we update with a list of resources for Montessori Homeschoolers?

hi, i found some cylinders

hi everyone,
i have taken a break from teaching to get my taxes done (yes, i asked for an extension...)anyway i found a cylinder set at montessori -n-such that combines the knobbed/knobless cylinder exercises (so they say). it was 43 dollars. well within my budget. they are four sets of seven. (wood colored sorting cylinders her is the link: http://montessori-n-such.com/detail.aspx?ID=1119) i am only sharing this for the less than fundamentalist montessorians among us. its not classic, but close enuf for our needs. and way cheaper than the knobbed cylinders. have a great day. i am done procrastinating.

i live near la junta colorado (one hour east of pueblo). we go to colorado springs about 3 times a year for business. i havent figured out how to cut and past from someone else's post.

I've read that repetition is good but I wonder if there is some sort of limit on this. My ds just really clings to things and I find it difficult to get him to do something new in most areas, hum just let my dh

I've only had my materials from Montessori Outlet since April. I purchased dressing frames, the pink tower, and one set of cylinder blocks. I am very pleased with the quality of the materials. I haven't had any paint chip off the pink tower as of yet. My ds and dd do the pink tower on their rugs which is placed on carpet.

Those look cool! My opinion is that they would teach the same concepts. The only downside I could see would be younger kids might have trouble pulling them out. My dd who is 2 is good with the cylinder blocks but those look like those my be more difficult to position without the knob. Just my thoughts. Very economical. I have only purchased one set of the cylinder blocks so far but plan to get the others next month.

how is everyone.

how are you all. i am doing fine. i got some planning sheets from donna young to help me keep track of what i have/want to/should introduce. my room isnt set up completely... but when it is i will let you know. i got some nice maps (one from good will the other form the dolalr store, but i hesitate at putting them on his level, plus we have a chair rail in the room we use, so it would involve me removing the chair rail. oh well, hope things are going well.
