Melamine?

When the big news about contaminated pet food broke, I started wondering about this. They said they found melamine in the food, used as a sort of substitute for protein.
Tons of children's dishes are made with melamine. Is there a difference? We have one set for DD that we bought before knowing anything about green living, and the IL's just bought another. (Apparently they think the no-plastic rule is for toys only..)

Should I get rid of it? I've been wanting to buy her bamboo plates for awhile, but I hate getting rid of perfectly usable dishes if they really aren't toxic...

As far as I know melamine is safe as long as you do not heat it up (can not nuke melamine). I still wonder about it though too...

Yes, I am always careful to transfer the food to microwave safe china before heating, and then back into the plastic bowl. Or just leaving it in the china and supervising carefully.

Any other info?

I was wondering about this too since we have a bunch of melamine plate & bowls we use for meals & snacks but since it's not microwave safe I'm always heating in our glass bowls first. I guess I will continue to use them until someone tells me otherwise
