NJ Homebirth

So far I've had homebirths in UT and AR and both experiences were very different (not the births, but the "procedures"). I didn't realize that requirements and such could vary so much from state to state. We're in NJ now and planning on ttc this summer. We might or might not still be here when I actually have the baby, but I'd like to start preparing. Is there anything out of the ordinary that I should know for NJ? Can anyone recommend any midwives? We're in the middle of northern nj. What about vaccinating? We do delayed and selective vaccinating. I'd also really love a recommendation for a pedi around here that is ok with this. I refuse to listen to one more dr tell me that I'm a bad parent for choosing this. Thanks so much!

I don't know where in NJ you are, but I am in north western NJ and will be having a homebirth this summer with Judith Hagan CNM. She's well regarded in this area. Insurance is covering us at the out of network rate. Our ped. is very open minded, encourages b'feeding for two years, and is open to delayed and selective vaxing. PM me if you'd like either of their phone numbers. Good luck!

NJ Gov. are asses and living with sticks up their asses? It is REALLY hard to get insurance to cover even ½ of the birth, and there is no HB MW or HBC/FSBC in NJ (that I know of or my MW knows of... if ANYONE out there knows of one let me know!), they are all in NY, PA and come over here to do HBs. Though it can be done! I should know, I am having one... any day now!

Can anyone recommend any midwives?

She is wonderful, everything I could ever want from a MW... Willing to work with me and my life (I seem to have a lot of ups and downs, giggles). She is just s wonderful lady over all, make me happy to see her every time I do. She is very knowledgeable, love to share what she knows, and loves to learn new things. She is the most gentle person I have had do female exams EVER! And very willing to except whatever choices you make with your care and your babies care. I am so happy I found her

What about vaccinating?
Med./ Religious only NJ. I am doing delayed and selective vaccinating as well... Well more stopping my DS(2yo) from getting more or the new lo from getting any and moving on from there. I do not know about were you are coming from, but for me this blows. I feel like I am coming off as come religious extremest just from writing up the exempt letter for my sons home file. Not that people who have thous beliefs are “ religious extremest”, but it just leaves me feeling like people get the whole wrong idea of what I believe because I take this path.

I'd also really love a recommendation for a pedi around here that is ok with this. I refuse to listen to one more dr tell me that I'm a bad parent for choosing this.
Sorrie I can not be more help! I have yet to take my son back to the Dr. from when I made the choice, though I am told that all I have to do is sign a for when I go in... best of luck!

I know of at least 3 groups of HB midwives in nj. It is legal here. It can be a PITA to get insurance to cover it. Most MW are willing to work with you to set up a payment schedule. PM me if you want recommendations.

My pedi doesn't give me a hard time about vaxing or HBing. DD is too young for school and doesn't go to daycare or anything so I have not dealt much with the religious exemption stuff yet.

I used Linda Perry as my midwife, and it was an amazing, empowering experience. She just knew the exact things that I needed during labor. She gave me fantastic post partum support, and I always looked forward to our prenatal visits together.

Linda also uses lots of complementary therapies and also has medical expertise. Mostly, she respects the birth process, and makes you feel powerful as you go through the journey to motherhood.

Her phone number is 973-226-2563 and 646-536-3726.
Good luck!

I'm just starting to explore the idea of homebirth, so I can't help you with any midwife information. if you're in the middle of northern NJ, I can recommend Dr. Rosen in Old Tappan. it's a little bit of a schlep for us from Ridgewood right now, but he said they'll be opening an office in Ridgewood within the year so if you're in mid-northern NJ it might work out for you. he's really great - love him! I've also heard that Dr. Maria Yerovi in Bloomfield is v good.

best of luck to you!
