after a week of off and on prodromal labor, amelia jane was born on easter at 10:06 am at home. she is huge 10.4lbs and 22inches. a good lb bigger than both her brothers. it was by far my most intense birth.
labor was 8 hours with only about 2 hours of hard labor. i started having contractions at 2am and called the midwife around 5 because they were getting more intense and closer together. she arrived at 6 and i was 4-5 centimeters and almost 100% effaced. at that point i was just waiting for the boys to wake up, open their easter baskets and get carted off to a friends. i had a strong feeling i didn't want them home for the birth. once they left at 8am the contractions started coming hard and fast and i got in the tub at 9. i started having a hard time handling the rushes and my midwife suggested i take my homepathic remedy. once i got it in my mouth, i immediately started feeling the urge to push. after about 5 pushes i started to ask why she wasn't coming out because my 2nd came flying out. after that all hell broke loose and i could feel that something wasn't right. the midwife said "get out of the tub now!" and i was like "huh?". my husband hurled me out and the babies head was like half out as i was squatting and then the midwife told me to get on the bed. i realized at that point her shoulders were stuck (shoulder dystocia) like my first. after some major tugging and twisting and a huge push she finally came out. i was a little worried because she was kind of floppy and not pinking up. but she finally came around with a homepathic remedy.
we are all doing well. the boys are thrilled with their sister. she is a little piggy...nursing all the time. my milk is already in!
all i can say is dang those girl scout cookies!
