To buy a new house with carpet or not

I truly do not know what to do here. There is a house we want. Brand new, with carpet. It is such a great house. Everything we want (minus the carpet) and in our price range. But the carpet is really holding me back. I am so bummed about it. I hate carpet for many reasons, but mostly b/c i know about all the chemicals that are in it. And we have an almost crawling baby that will be right up on it a lot. But it's the house we want. Should I really and truly not buy a house b/c it has carpet? Changing it out is not an option. There will be no money for that once we move in. And the seller/builder is not going to replace it for us. So what are my options? I seriously can't believe I would give up this house I love for carpet, but I might..
Any suggestions or words of wisdom or comfort? I am so perplexed.

I sympathize as I hate carpet too and it might be almost a dealbreaker for me. But what's underneath? It's not that hard to rip up carpet---you could always wait to refinish the floors (if wood) until you had more cash...

I'm guessing there is concrete since it is a brand new house. I really doubt it is hardwood, but I will of course ask. I guess we could pull up the carpet and score and stain the cement floors.

I seriously might think about that, with some area rugs concrete might not be *that* bad until you can put down something "greener." Good luck fellow carpet-hater!
