Natural drycleaning at home?

I have a few garments that I need to clean but I really don't want to take them to the dry cleaners and have them pumped full of nasty chemicals! Does anyone know how I can clean them at home with natural ingredients? I would very much appreciate it! Thanks!

I have been trying to do some research but haven’t found anything yet. I'm curious too!

Some items that are 'dry clean only" I hand wash (silk, cashmere, delicate fabrics etc) but coats, suits, certain pants, etc still have to be dry cleaned.

For now, I take our items to a “green” dry cleaner - which is just as well anyway since DP has some pretty expensive suits and shirts and I have certain things that are not replaceable (like hand made vintage French dresses, etc.) I would hate to ruin those trying to DYI unless I had a lot of experience.

This might be a dumb idea, but have you thought of a steam cleaner? Like those handheld ones? The spray isn't so harsh that it would ruin delicate fabric, but it would kill any bacteria/nasty stuff, and probably take out stains.
I can't think of any reason it wouldn't work, but who knows?

OOoh I want to peak in your closet! (I also love beautiful vintage clothing )

I either hand wash, cold wash on delicate and hang to dry or spot clean and hang in the bathroom to 'steam' and then hang outside to air out...

If it was something really delicate and special though (like PPs example) I'd probably look for a 'green' dry cleaner. They still aren't super 'green' by the way (at least from what I have found) but they are better than the perc laden traditional dry cleaners. So I would only use them if absolutely necessary and try to avoid getting a lot of clothing that needs that treatment.
