Our beautiful baby boy was born on March 18 at 8:33 pm by emergency C-section at 38w1d. He experienced a big decel down to 79 and had to be born immediately, but thank G-d, his apgars were great and he is happy and healthy. His birth weight was 6lbs, 6oz and 18.5 inches long. When we left the hospital he was 5 lbs 15 oz and yesterday was back up to 6 lbs 3 oz. He's nursing like a champ, but I have to give him 1 oz of formula 6x a day after nursing because he is very jaundiced. It's ok though. He has no trouble going between bottle and breast and gained his 4 ounces back totally on breastmilk.
I went into labor on Friday, March 14, but it was very early prodromal labor. After a small bout of flu on Saturday and Sunday, I went into real labor on Monday night. Tuesday morning I went to get checked by my midwife and the baby had a brief decel so we were sent to the hospital for monitoring. At the hospital, my BP was slightly elevated, so the midwife asked us to stay and labor in the hospital instead of going home to labor more. My doula met us at the hospital, but despite all of our efforts (including AROM), I remained at 4-5 cm for about 8 hours. Finally, around 8 pm I got an epidural in preparation for pitocin. As soon as the epidural was administered, baby had his decel. They gave him a minute or two to bounce back, but when he didn't, they sent me in for an emergency C-section and he was delivered in less than 5 minutes.
I am recovering well and the baby is doing great. We stayed in the hospital til Friday afternoon and have been enjoying our babymoon. Since he is jaundiced, his bris is delayed, but we hope to be able to have it soon and give our precious boy a name!
