Star-shaped pool or round pool?

I like the look of the star-shaped one b/c it seems to have little notches that would be nice and supportive, but it is one inch shorter than the regular fishy pool. They hold the same amount. What do you guys think?

the star shaped one. Not because of the shape but the dimensions are bigger giving you more room in the pool.

Are you going to have a midwife? Because it's going to be really hard for anyone to assist you in a star-shaped pool. Yeah, the dimensions are bigger, but how big do you need? How many of you do you need room for?

Hi NashvilleMidwife

I totally get the ease of assisting but did you look at the picture. It really has very rounded edges whereas the fishy pool looks like it's not even big enough to be on hands and knees.

How tall are you Galatea?

I have the round fishy pool and just tried it out for the first time as a test this week. It was perfect for me (5'8"/200 lbs) and my daughter who is 21 months. I would not want the pool to be much bigger if you are planning on being the only one in the pool for the birth. I found the dimensions just right for body coverage and the ability to use the sides as support. I found that I could do all the positions I wanted to w/o any cramped feelings or difficulty in movement.

My sister used the "star/flower" pool you also posted for her labor and birth. As far as I know she had no problems with that one either. But she was also the only one in the pool.

I would say just go for which ever one is easiest for you to get. That inch will not make much difference in the end. And check for leaks, because my sister did have leak issues with her first "star/flower" pool and had to go out and get another one.

Yup - also read the descriptions which say that round one is an inch deeper.

Ok...I'm watching this thread too because I bought the star shaped pool last year when we were still TTC. I got it on clearance for $6.74 at Target so if it won't work very well I'll just get the round fishy pool to use instead. If it won't make that much of a difference I'd rather not spend the extra $ for another one.

Since you are considering having your dh in the pool with you, I would go for the slightly wider one (star/flower shaped) That way you can both fit in it w/o too much over crowding. You would probably both fit in the round one, but w/o much room to move and adjust as needed.

If you look at some of the birth videos on YouTube, you'll get an idea of how big each of the pools are. I thought the star shaped pools to be too big for just the laboring mama, however if you're going to have your DH in, too, then the star shaped one might be better.
Oh, FYI, Target now has that round pool for sale in-stores. Just so you don't have to pay shipping/wait for it to come.
HTH!
