Breastfeeding:A safety hazard??? - Page 2

Our insurance company recently dropped Quest, and the new lab we need to go to is much worse.

Similar thing happened to me. Ds was getting some of his 2 month vacs and the nurse told me that babies have a gasp reflex and will choke if breastfeeding at the same time. Of course, she felt she could 'allow' me to feed him after 2 screams because then he would be able to suck.

This is the same baby who didn't even cry when having his heel prick guthrie test done at 3 days old.

Anyways, I ignored her and she wasn't pleased especially as we only had half of the scheduled vacs. Does anyone have any link to info about said gasp reflex in infants and why breastfeeding is not a safety hazard at that time? I'd love to have something to wave under her nose!

Oh, I am 100% washing my hands repeatedly when going to a lab from now on--no matter who is with me. I have no interest in carrying HepB around in my pockets, or touching my baby with staph-covered hands.

Actually, if these diseases are so virulent that touching my breast might make nursing dangerous, and are a high enough risk that it is seriously worth being concerned, I'll be *DEMANDING* that the lab techs wash up in front of me.
