Can I bury compostable cups and flatware?

I get a fair amount of compostable cups and flatware from take-out and eating at Whole Foods which I use several times over before tossing.

I was wondering if I can bury them instead. I don’t have a compost bin (not sure if I want to have one yet since I have a black thumb)

How do you handle compostable items?

As a homeschool project we buried those plates from Whole Foods made with sugar cane fiber

After my youngest turned 4 last year. (Instead of throwing them away after his birthday party we put them in our composter.) It took 3 months for those plates to degrade! So yes you can bury them but it won't degrade quickly. (The package says it takes 60 days.) We tend our composter a couple of times a week.

It may go faster if you water them. I was buying groceries today and they use biodegradable bags; I overheard them tell someone they will last as long as you don't get them wet.
