Why did I even consent to being checked?

I'm 38 weeks 3 days today and I had my cervix checked this morning. Well, after having *nothing* going on cervix-wise at 36 weeks, today I'm just a fingertip dilated and soft, but still quite thick, so no effacement at all. I know this means absolutely nothing, but I'm so bummed out and sad about it that it's ridiculous! So why did I even get checked? I'm so p.o.'d at myself.

It'll happen. I know it must be frustrating.

I never dilate until labor. Never, not at all! The baby doesn't even drop until its time to meet the world. I know that you know this is possible but sometimes its nice to hear it again.

My best friend was sent home from a check-up because *nothing* was going on the morning of her due date. And later that evening her first ds was born.

Be kind to yourself.

My mw told me that "checking" means nothing...so she doesn't do it. I could be super-dilated, and have a long long time to go, or not have anything exciting going on there, and have the baby tomorrow. Still, it would be nice to know that something is going on down there!

After contracting every 10 mins all weekend I asked to be checked and was totally disappointed to hear that although I'm very soft, I'm not dilated at all.

All that pain for nothing. Just keep chanting "cervical checks are pointless".

Yeah, I declined this week.
They just checked last week and said things are softning, but I know it means nothing so...
She did say he definetly moved down since last check though!
Guess that mile long walk I took the other day paid off!
Off to the mall today for more walking. Both best friend and hubby have birthdays next week... and mama could use a new shirt
Hopefully there will be another birthday next week too

with my first i started labor pains at 0cm...it'll happen, it HAS to!

with my first my waters had already broken and i was only a fingertip. DD was born about 8 hours later. and a friend of mine walked around 4 cm for like 2 or 3 weeks and had a longer labor than i did. don't let the numbers worry you.

that is why, though, i don't get checked. not knowing is a lot easier for me so i don't try and over-analyze it.

Thanks guys. While technically it still bums me out that nothing is going on down there despite having sex twice this week and lots of menstrual-like cramping, I know it doesn't mean anything and you're all right about that. I'm just disappointed in myself that I didn't just keep my pants on (for the check, not the sex LOL)!

You can keep 'em on for next time....'coz if you got checked at this point in your pg, your care provider will certainly "offer" to do it again.

Maybe you can be one of the rare women who has a baby....WITHOUT having a cervical check during labor! I know, I know, how could that happen? but it can!
