I dont know why but last night I layed in bed for about 2hrs trying to figure out WHO would take pictures durning and after the homebirth Durning our son's birth we have very limited pictures cause we didnt plan that I am sort of a pirvate person so I am not going to have a "crowd" I am thinkin it is going to be probably me, DH, and MW.

I have heard of doula's taking pictures but I wasnt planning on getting on getting a doula. Did anyone set up a camera or what did they do?

Sorty I dont know why I am freaking out this

My sister and best friend were present (but I didn't call them to call until I was in transition so I was able to labor alone). My sister took video (which I wanted just so I could watch it later since I knew I'd be in labor land and miss most of what was going on around me) and my best friend took still shots. I will always cherish those pictures.

I've been thinking about this too. We're not having a doula this time so like you it will be just me, DH and the MW. I was going to ask the MW if she takes pics but I'm thinking no (there's another MW in the area that does). So I'll be watching this thread too...

My doula said she would take pictures. But when the time came she needed to be right in my face and I wouldn't have had that any other way. My sister took pictures and did a great job. I was just telling her yesterday how happy I was that she got there on time. She didn't know ahead of time I needed her to do pictures, but she did great. She is still disappointed that she missed the money shot

I wish we had taken more! Dh took some but the camera was a little slow so we didn't get as many as we'd like.

My dh did.

I am not the type that labors and needs hands-on support. I like to be left alone. So as long as I knew he was in the room, I was fine with him taking pictures.

My midwife brought a trainee, and she did. Otherwise the labor assistant would have. Our midwife's protocol is always to have two people at a birth; generally one to care for baby and one to care for mama in case they need separate attention at the same time. But also so there is someone to get drinks/take pictures/etc. so there is always someone there for the mom.

The backup midwife did the photography, and the midwife set up a video camera. I treasure those images more than I can describe.

We didn't take any during or immediately after the birth, and now really wish we had. It was just me, DH, the mw and my best friend. DH couldn't really have done it, it was his first time to attend a birth, and he had all he could handle just watching and being there for me. My friend could have done it, but I am a very private person, too, and wasn't sure ahead of time if I wanted the flash of a camera interfering with the quiet atmosphere of our daughter's birth. Now that she is a year old, I just wish we had the photos of the birth. They grow so fast and already it is hard to believe she was ever that small.

We had a video camera set up behind my shoulders for the delivery and my husband took still shots during labor, which at the time I didn't want, but now so glad I have them. And right before I started pushing, my husband wanted a picture of the nurses and my OB with me. I thought it was strange and I was VERY uncomfortable, but now I LOVE that picture. After the birth, my husband so wrapped up in watching our little girl, he would not pick up the camera. My OB joked,"You want some pictures of the new family?" and he took a few for us I am so glad I have those videos and pictures, they are priceless to me.

There are photographers that specialize in birth photography in our area (Dallas) now. You could check into that. I've seen some very beautiful images.

We had two senior mws and an apprentice mw at my dd's birth. One of the senior MWs took pictures. I love how they turned out.

My doula took them, but she didn't use a flash and it wasn't a very good camera, so most of them are out of focus. I was really sad about that. I have really gotten into photography lately and I hope I can get someone who knows what they're doing to take pics of my next birth, but even if I have to put my camera in auto mode and hand it off to a friend or doula that should be better than last time.

If you rented Canon's 50mm f/1.2 lens and handed it to someone to use on a Rebel XTi body, I imagine you'd get awesome images even if it was in auto mode. The key is having the right equipment, I think.

My MIL lives with us and my mom really wants to attend the birth. If mom comes her job is photographer. I will keep her busy doing something useful and I know I will want as many pics a possible. Otherwise MIL will take some. I won't be having a doula.

My two best friends will hopefully make it for labour and the birth, so they'll be the designated photographers. If not, DH gets the job by default! I have hardly any pictures of DS's birth, and none of labour, and really regret that. I'd rather have a whole bunch that i might not like than none, ya know?

An apprentice took the video while one midwife took still pics (and another midwife helped me with the pushing and what not)
I had not planned on having so many people at my birth, but it worked out nicely.
