We can save money by getting those products from the store. I felt bad because he is a good guy just trying to make a living like we are, but it is just getting too expensive.

Got to spread the wealth and freecycled a bunch of stuff yesterday that was in great condition, but, we just aren't planning on any more kids, and most of it was gifts or hand me downs. I got to give it to a lady who had previously picked stuff up from me last year for her first baby, and is now having her second.

DH's chiro was $40 more than we thought it would be, but he said it was "like crack" and he wants to go back and is even "willing to try fixing it (his back) naturally" I'm just glad his back is feeling better after 3+ years.

OK. I may have to spend coming soon. I've got feelers out on craigslist and freecycle, looking for a pressure cooker and/or a food dehydrator. We're members of a CSA, and we will never eat all that food while it's fresh. Plus, I want to go berrying this summer. If I can't find one of them by end of May, I'm buying one of them.

Also, I need new shorts. I weigh 20+ lbs less than I did when I bought them 3years ago (but then I got knocked up , so, I haven't been this small in a while) Hence, my summer clothes, especially my shorts, are way too big - as in falling off. Will hit goodwill/thrift stores, and hopefully I will find what I need. My sneakers are 2 years old, are falling apart, and are worn daily - I'm looking for a good sale for them.

$42 for three gifts is pretty good. At least you were a careful shopper. Gifts is something I pretty much decided I have to include in my budget because buying them is just part of our culture. I usually feel cheap if I don't. Good job on the coffee!

Definitely a no-spend. I don't count any groceries as "spend" because you have to eat to live.

Wine, ice cream, Cheese Nips...these things are in the gray zone...but for some people these are necessary too.

OK...back with today's damages...81.99 at grocery, but, I did well, I believe. I got a lot of good deals...5lbs organic apples for $6, a huge bag of "overripe" bananas for $.99 (I'll make muffins/pancakes/bread and freeze them tonight), the organic hot dogs were on sale, same with the ground beef. I also had to buy razor cartridges for DH which is $10 right there (and he's military, so he HAS to shave). The only "splurges" were a jar of organic blueberry juice for DD (which will last, seriously, a month), and a box of organic strawberry cereal bars for DD.

$24 and change at Target on baby supplies and Kosher Pepsi. The rule is I get a bottle of pop when I do the shopping, so, it's all good.

$10 laundry quarters

Wow, I didn't know this thread existed!! I only read through half of the first page, maybe a little more actually, and feel less panic than when I came online. I like threads that remind you that you aren't the only one with the same struggles and it is always helpful to see others good ideas...I'm on board!

So I'm Krista/Kripa and it is me and hubby and our 4 mo baby boy. We had a nice little savings in anticipation of baby and had a plan to implement when the money started getting low...well you know what they say about the best laid plans...anyway (nak now) long story short, while self employed last year i made 2x as much as the year before, that would be great except i didn't realize it until i sat to do our taxes this year and we owed almost 8 times more than the year before...freak out...it wiped our savings in one swoop and thankfully we have family to help. Hubby's job just changed hands and the pay periods are drastically different than i budget for...double-freak. so hubby is looking for second job and better paying primary job and i'm looking for work i can do with baby. until then i already turned in all of our loose change and have my very first loaf of bread baking as i type. looking for ways to cut our already pretty bare budget (food and gas will be the focus i think) and last night managed to not buy a coke with my last dollar and some change that I missed. (ahhh, have two hands again )

This weekend I'm looking in our garage for things I can put on Craig's List. We have an oven that I've been meaning to post for over a year now, ugh. But our main focus will be on really not doing unnecessary spending and my first focus on that will be the grocery budget. Tackling seitan is my other weekend project, last time it didn't go so well but I think I have better instructions now. Right now we are less than paycheck to paycheck and hopefully we can get to paycheck to paycheck quickly without having to rely on family too much and then slowly start building back up. I think I'll plan on reading more of this thread this weekend too to get more ideas. I love the support on MDC.

01: $134 groceries/household stuff - within budget but more than I meant to spend IYKWIM. However, I did get some PP pads, some labour drinks and a bit of extra meat to make PP meals for the freezer, so I got a lot for my money. DH spent $1 at work on a chocolate bar!
02: No spend!!! DH spent a tiny bit at work but this isn't his challenge....
03: DH spent $7 on playing football plus $1.5 on a drink afterwards. The weather was glorious so I took DS1 and DS2 to the park after school. I had packed snacks but DS1 accidentally dropped his and spilled them everywhere so I ended up with a $2 spend at the store for replacements.......
04: Needed butter but came out of the store with chocolate too So, that's $4 out of my grocery budget. I wanted a Coke later but I resisted so it wasn't all bad!!
05: $3 on groceries. Still within budget but wouldn't have bought this by choice, it was related to an argument with my DH about my trying to cut down on groceries and him claiming he is being left hungry??!?!
06: $4 on groceries. By some miracle, I sent DH to the store for bread, milk and cheese and he *only* came back with those items!! Progress!!! That is my household/grocery budget spent til Weds so we need to manage with what we have now. DH is aware!!
07: No spend!!
08: $120 groceries/household (that's within budget and pretty good given that we needed diapers for nighttime use and laundry stuff.......) plus $120 gas (within budget but still scary)
09: No spend!!
10: No spend AND no drive! Just off to polish my halo........
11: $2 parking to take DS2 on a walk. Later I had my tutorial social. I'll get reimbursed the main and the drink so technically only spent $5 on a dessert. I didn't need it, so that was a bad purchase.
12id pretty well on my tutorial by packing a lunch and drinks. Spent $2 on a tea (mainly just to be sociable so needless really ) and left a tip after dinner. Dinner will be on expenses. DH took the kids out to the library and got lunch while they were in town - $6 on lunch plus $4 on a gift for DS1 and probably $4 on parking.
13: $5 on a cake and some juice to take to the tutorial. I had promised to bake but was way too tired, so this was a compromise and probably didn't work out much more expensive than baking at home. DH took the kids to the park and picked up some lunch items - $4. I then had to get $12 worth of groceries for dinner because DH hadn't followed my meal plan in my absence!! Plus $6 contribution to a gift for someone in the tutorial group who has finished the course.
14:No spend and no drive for me but DH bought a loaf and some mints - $2.
15: Wooah, lots of spending today. Spent $176 in total on this week's groceries, DH's birthday presents, some extra food that is intended for postpartum and some vitamins for DS1 and me. Then, I took the kids to McDonald's as a treat and spent $14.
16: No spend, no drive. Midwife came to me and made a belly cast!!
17: I think I can record today as a no spend. We've been out for DH's birthday and we're going back out for dinner but his folks are here and I think they're paying! Turns out that DH spent $12 on sweets during our day out!!
18: Well today could have been a no spend, no drive for me but I got the urge to eat chocolate and drink something fizzy and gave in to it. Actually drove especially to do it too - shameful. Got a few things on sale while I was there so spend came in at $12......DH bought himself a McDonalds for lunch today and spent $40 on a book but that was his birthday money so fine.....
