It's a boy...

and I don't know what to knit for him.

If any of you have any great suggestions for knits for baby boys I would greatly appreciate it. He is expected in August so I would be knitting for fall or winter sizes.

Thanks
Jenn

PS we do cloth diaper BUT I have never used wool in the process.

The typical hat and booties sets are always fun. I wish I had done more for my kids- seemed TOO simplistic at the time. I'd do some sweaters that can be worn for next winter. Those little one piece outfits (with the buttons for the crotch to change diapers- full pant leg and long sleeve is what I'm thinking) are super cute too, I think someone here was designing one but I can't recall who- hopefully she'll reply! Little boy cardigan/sweaters and matching pants of course! Oh, and a blankie!

I loved the hooded zip-up-the-back sweater we had. Easy to get those little arms into and he couldn't get the hood off if it was chilly out.

I like this hat http://www.helloyarn.com/topdownbonnet.htm

I've also knitted this hat in pink and blue Debbie Bliss cashmerino

I am in love with this new little sweater for wee ones. I can imagine it in wonderful colors for either gender or gender neutral ones.

Congrats on the boy!!! They are amazing!

I was in the same boat as you. Found I was having a little boy and not knowing what to knit. I scoured ravelry and saved a whole bunch of stuff I really liked. Are you on Ravelry?

Some of the things I saved are:

Sweaters/Cardigans
Presto Chango

Pea Pod Baby Set

Hats
Lil Devil

I'm also planning on a few nice wool socks to keep his toes warm and at least one baby blanket. I really like the tree of life one that was at lion brand's website. Could have sworn that was free but it looks like they are charging for it now, huh.

What about a pokemon hat? Or isn't there a yoda hat and someone posted a little jacket to go with it? Search the forum for those...

I love Trellis on Knitty:

And I'll second the zip up the back sweater. DS had one and I just finished one for the new babe. The hood is adorable.

I made a hoodie & hat (because he hates the hoodie -- when he turned his head he couldn't see!) set & he has worn it from about 7 months to present. It's the single most useful thing I've ever knit. I also made a sweater & hat set out of some really posh Noro Kochoran yarn that has gotten a lot of use...

I *think* I might have been the one claiming to be planning to make a one piece boy's outfit that xanandali was referring to *blush* I haven't gotten around to it at all, unfortunately. If you were interested I could probably come up with some general directions for a nice tank top one, though.

Actually, I might have to attempt that in the next few weeks...I just bought a nice big blue ball of sugar & cream that would make a great one piece tank top set.

Oh, and a great idea for spicing up boy clothes -- stripes!! If you knit sleeves flat you could do awesome "racing stripes" up the arms of them (intarsia style).

thanks for all the suggestions, I have made him the EZ 2 needle sweater but it is lacy and dh doesn't really like it for a boy. I can't wait to start some of the suggestions here. Now to decide which hat and sweater patterns to choose.
