I live up stairs from my land lord, she a very nice old lady. Her son's also live with her. On the way to the washer-mat down the street, one of her son's friends goes "We though since you were out you had the baby" I told him no that I was just seeing a friend in the city. Should I tell her that I am having a home birth? Normally I would not even think about it, but she live under my feel in the most lit. of way! mer...?

i wouldn't unless you can really hear each other. there's no reason they need to know.

I would keep it too yourself alot if not most peoples view on HB tends to not be the most supportive and I hate to say this but it seriously freaks some people out so its not worth the xtra stess

If she were just your neighbor, would you tell her? If not, then no, no need to.

I wouldn't. Landlords can can sometimes get funny ideas about homebirth, like thinking they can somehow tell you not to do it (they can't). Not something I'd want to fight about close to birth.

I would not bother.

I wouldn't tell her either.

However, she may be more open to homebirth than you think. My grandmother was the most supportive out of everyone, probably because she had all 5 of her kids at home. It's people my parent's age and younger that seem to be the most freaked out, probably because all they really knew was hospital births.

Hmm... if you think she might freak out (I live in a condo and can hear my upstairs neighbors pretty well) and call the police or something, you might want to mention it to her. But, maybe closer to when you are in labor.

I am planning on telling my neighbors below me just because if I am laboring in the middle of the night -- they will hear and I don't need them calling anyone.

If anything, I would tell her that you are planning to labor at home and not to be concerned should she hear noise coming from your apt.

I wouldn't, my neighbor knew and while I was in the middle of pushing she came right in front of the living room window (where I was but the curtains were closed but we had single pane windows) and shouted "Is the baby here yet!) My husband had to get up and go to the door and quietly say "no..."

Not exactly what I was hoping for during pushing.

I wouldn't tell her, but if you think she might get nervous and call the police if she hears something, it might be a good idea to have a note on your door when you go into labor. Something along the lines of "Nothing is wrong, labor in progress" or something. Just in case someone shows up.
