Maggie's Soap Nuts, anyone?

I just bought a sample pack of these at the HFS yesterday and I used them last night on a load of darks. It seems like they worked fine, so far anyway. Has anyone ever had any experiences, good or bad with these?

YES!!! I just got going on these great little things and I found a recipe for making a soapnuts liquid that you can use for liquid detergent in the laundry and the dishwasher! The recipe is:100 grams of soapnuts and 3 liters of water. Boil for 30 minutes Strain out the nuts. You can use 3 tbsp. per load of laundry. You can use it the dishwasher too and put some vinegar in the rinse aid.

I think the liquid is more economical than using the nuts. I've done a quite a few loads so far and it seems to be great! Spread the word!

I even used them on diapers. I was skeptical at first, but everything seemed to come out clean. There's no real scent, so I had to adjust to that mental thing where clean=flowery smell, but, yeah, I was pretty impressed.
I'm going to steal that idea about making a liquid with them. They're darn expensive and stretching them will help.

I bought some too I like them fine, I trust they work because I have long ago adjusted my idea of clean away from synthetic fragrances and bleachiness But I was advised by some cloth diapering-wiser mamas that "REAL" soap is not appropriate for CD washing Perhaps it's a build-up issue? I just didn't bother to use them on my stash after having been given the advice, but if you don't have a problem after several washings, by all means let us know

I wondered about using them on cloth diapers as well. How do I make a liquid from them? And then how much of it do I use in the laundry? Anyone know?

I'm totally interested, too - especially for cloth diapers. We have a HE front loader and from what I gather it can be really difficult to avoid a residue from detergents when washing dipes in a FL.
To me they don't look all that expensive, considering you can reuse the nuts over and over.

I found this site that has a Q&A.
But I'd love to hear from others who use them for dipes, especially if it's in a FL.

i asked about using them for diapers in the diaper forum a while back and was told they are fine. they are a natural detergent and not a soap so they should leave no build up. i have not tried them yet though

They are wonderful and the liquid soap can be used to wash just about everything-I used them to clean my floor and my dog today they are more economical when you buy them in a bigger amount and I ALWAYS get way more than the suggested loads from my nuts
