I love reading books with great IR/MC content! Fiction or non, pulp or serious...anyone? Here are my contributions off the top of my head:
----------------------
Beyond the Earth and the Sky: A Journey into Bhutan, Jamie Zeppa
Non-fiction love/travel story: An innocent, young Catholic woman from a Canadian mining town who had "never been anywhere," Zeppa signed up for a two-year stint teaching in a remote corner of the Himalayan kingdom of Bhutan. Ends up marrying a Bhutanese national and having a child.
All Over Creation, by Ruth Ozeki
Fiction: This is a book like no other. Hapa child comes to grips with her white father and Japanese mother's past. Environmental activism like you've never read before!
Queen, by Alex Haley
Fiction: If you've read Roots, you'll love Queen. The main character is what is called 'A child of the plantation', the offspring of a slave owner and a slave woman the product not of love but of exploitation who are so casually discarded as to be a disgrace. In the beginning, she is very naive and optimistic. Regrettably, life doesn't treat her that well.
Dreams From my Father:A Story of Race and Inheritance, by Barack Obama
Non-fiction: His autobiography. I haven't read it but on my to-read list!
