Art projects from household items. (looking for more ideas)

I got some great ideas from my denim thread, but was wondering what other projects are possible from common household items we no longer use or wear out but don't want to trash - especially if they are not easily recyclable.

So far I came up with:

Lead plates, mugs, etc - So far, I'm getting rid of items that contain lead (or at least made in China). I don't feel good about giving them away, but dont want to trash them either. I was thinking of doing some mosaic art projects from those items.

Wine Corks - I have quite a collection of corks from wine over the past several years. I'm thinking about making this. http://www.wineintro.com/products/corks/corkboard.html

Any other ideas?

I'm currently making "plarn". I'm using my plastic grocery bags to make plastic yarn. I'm going to crochet it into a sturdy plastic bag to use when I go to the grocery store. One large bag uses about 70 plastic bags from what I can tell.

Do you have a link to directions for this? I'm not sure how to cut the bags and piece the pieces together in order to crochet them

This is for the kids.... but I give clothing we can't wear any more and can't donate (due to stains, holes, etc) to my DD so she can make doll clothing. She cuts the arms and then puts them on her dolls and stuffed animals as skirts, dresses, tops, head bands, etc. She also made a couple things for herself to wear.

I also use the clothing to cut into hair ribbons, scarfs, etc.
