I know I saw a thread on lead testing strips/kits and where to purchase them but am having trouble finding it.
so... where is the best place to get, are there better companies/ $$ than others? i really need to test our everyday dishes, household wares etc, the everyday dish thread got me thinking even more and I really want to do this as part of my spring clean and purge.
thanks so much in advance

We had a big news story here and the lady went out and bought all the lead test kits you can get from Home Depot, Lowes, etc. and tried them out on items that she knew contained lead and the results varied widely. Many of them didn't even work. Then she used one of those gun/scanner looking things that the professionals use and all the stuff came back positive for containing lead. It's sparked a lead frenzy in our city and the news station would have days that you could take your stuff in to get it tested by the gun/scanner looking thing.

So basically what I'm trying to say is that the self-test kits don't work really well.

Order Lead Inspector kits online. They have a leach method where you can soak vinegar in dishes, etc. for some time and then test the liquid to see how much lead leached out. They're quite senstive. I discovered them after my dd's blood lead came back slightly higher and I had been SO discouraged by the lack of sensitivity of the Lead Check, etc. swabs available (those are are made to test the very high levels found in house paint) I've been very happy with the Lead Inspector kits-- the price is reasonable, and they detected lead in some toys that the swab kits had not. I got rid of those toys, made a few other changes, and my dd's blood lead dropped 2 points in 3 months!
