Swelling Relief?

I'm kind of afraid I already know all the tricks, but give me anything you've got.

I over did it Thursday and then traveled over the weekend & ate junky food and now I'm on my 3rd day with fred flintstone feet with toes that look like cocktail wieners. It's just so uncomfortable!

I am -
a) Just about on my 2nd liter of water - 3rd in 12 hours
b) Eating watery fruits
c) Had 4 eggs plain for breakfast for protein
d) had a little half cup of coffee hoping for a diuretic effect ( don't know if that really works for this kind of swelling but I wanted it anyway )

I also have DH bringing home cucumbers & epsom salts for a soak tonight...

What else can I do? Anything homeopathic? I can swing by a good healthfood store tonight ....

(and yes, I'm keeping an eye on my blood pressure, but with no pitting or other symptoms I think this is 'normal' swelling from my past few days activity)

Have you stopped eating the junky food?? Sometimes after I have a bad food coupld days I have a hard time getting back on track and end up having a bad food couple weeks. Anyhow, once I stop I do lots of water to flush that junk salt out.

If there's no pitting.. simply lifting your legs for about 1/2 hour 3-4 x's a day should really help alot too. Be careful taking anything hoemopathic or herbal as the ones for swelling tend to be diuretics and not really what you need in late pregnancy. IMHO

I heard from a doula once that cabbage leaves work the same as they do for breast engorgement by drawing excess liquid out, but I don't have any first-hand experience...

Try getting some potassium in your system.....bananas are good if you like them. I hear that's supposed to balance out the sodium.

lol yes I know how that can be - I just can't keep junk in my house because I have zero self control. My main problem was that we got stuck in traffic & stopped at a rest stop for car ride snacks ... Never good

I'm going through the same thing right now. My blood pressure is slightly elevated, but not too bad, but my feet and ankles are swollen. I also had a rough weekend - baby shower and a weekend at my parents' house, where they keep the temp in their house at 80 degrees and have lots of junk food around, plus a 2 hour drive each way...

Anyway, my midwife has me eating cucumbers, taking the juice of 1/2 a lemon in a glass of water once a day, and drinking black cherry extract. She said to put 2 tablespoons of it into my oj in the morning. It seems to help, and you can get a little bottle of the extract for between $4 and $7, depending on your natural foods store. Good luck. Put your feet up!

The only thing that really has helped with my swelling is taking a good hike.

Ha! I wish. I feel like a total wuss but now that this baby is down in my pelvis, I can barely stand long enough to cook & clean during the day - and i don't think waddling around the block is *quite* the same thing
