water breaking or labor first... - Page 2

Hi! I'm not in your DDC but I thought I'd comment. I have had 2 kiddo's and both times my water broke about 24 hours before I felt anything resembling a cramp!

With my DS my water broke as the first sign of labor. Being a good (and uninformed) little patient, I called my OB right away, who told me to go to L&D, and they started me and my 0cm-dilated, hard, completely unready cervix on pitocin within 3 hours of my water breaking, starting an awful cycle of unproductive, prolonged labor that went on for 27 hours. :

This time at least I'll know -- if my water breaks, I'm staying home for 6-8 hours to give my body a chance to get started on its own!!

With my daughter, my water broke (waterfall style) before any contractions started. But with my son, my water didn't break until much later into labor.

In my first pregnancy my water broke while I was sleeping, but not a huge gush, just kind of leaking out slowly, though it did break with a big "pop" (more of an "oomph"). I had a contraction immediately afterward that LASTED three minutes (scared me to death!), then two more ten minutes apart, then 3 minutes apart for the rest of my labor, totaling 4.5 hours.
