Cervix question

Thread Starter
I'm 24wks pregnant, and for the past 5-6 wks, I've been having on and off contractions. I haven't really been worried about it, because I had them with my 1st pregnancy and didn't have him until 42wks. But yesterday I had some cramping and just felt off. So I thought I'd feel better to check my cervix and reassure myself that nothing is happening. But I found my cervix to be sooo soft and mushy, and at least 1cm dilated. I'm not concerned about the cm, because I know that isn't too wierd for a 2nd preg, but should I be so mushy already? And I thought it should be hard to even reach my cervix at this point... it's not. I don't want to seem paranoid, but I also don't want to ignore signs that something might be wrong either. Not sure if I should call my midwife. Please share opinions. Thanks!

Dear Kris, You should contact your midwife if you are worried about something. If nothing else she can put your mind at ease. After all, isn't that why you hire a midwife instead of an OB.

Being 1 cm at 24 wks is not normal... but your outer os could be dilated and not your inner os - its called having a petulous cervix and is normal in a multip. Mushy is a very subjective word.... what feels mushy to you could be perfectly normal. Multips cervixs are softer.

If you are concerned, please contact your careprovider.
