Um, Whoa!

Ok, so does anyone else here do random cervix checks??

Well I did one about 2 weeks ago just to see if I could feel where I was at, from what I could tell I was soft and about a fingertip dilated. I haven't done it recently but tonight I was taking a much needed bath and decided just to see what was going on up there because I've been so crampy lately.

Well, whoa! I reached up there (yes I know TMI) and there was something round and hard, as in her head! I push to see and sure enough she kicked me and pushed back down. A big glob of my mucus plug came out too and boy was I shocked. Seriously, her head is right there! I couldn't tell how dilated I was because I was so freaked out but please tell me this means it's not much longer! Anyone else check and find something they weren't expecting?!

Yeah this kids head has been right there too.

I can't really get around it anymore. If you were able to push her head up any I think that means she is not engaged yet. But my midwife said that it is normal for non-first babies not to engage until labor.

I could push her up barely, and she wanted to come right back down. It shocked me to feel her so close, I could actually feel her heartbeat on top of her head.

I would love to feel my babies head-just tried in fact. No luck...do it again!

It's pretty neat isn't. Yeah she should come right back down after being pushed up.

Hm... I check every few days, and it's always pretty much the same ;-) mushy, high, can't tell dilation because my fingers aren't long enough. No head in reach yet.

i cant even come close to reaching my cervix, i have tried. i would love to check it out since its my last chance and i think it would be neat.

I am so not coordinated enough to reach my own cervix... that is so cool that you could feel her head though!

I hope this means good things for you! I'm one of those weird ones that can walk around dilated to 3cm with a baby's head engaged for a few weeks, so I don't really bother checking anymore It sounds like your body is really getting ready though!

Two weeks ago my baby 'dropped' and I have been able to feel her head 'right there'. However, I can't feel my cervix, though, because it is behind her...posterior...and her head is up resting on my pubic bone. It is very strange to feel their head SOOOO very close! I hope that means good things for you! I think I'll sit here another two weeks, though.

Mmm Hmmm. Just yesterday I checked and his/her head is right there. Near as I can tell, it's HUGE, since I had quite a bit of reaching to do to get past it to check my cervix.
I was a little surprised. Poor DH, he's been feeling so frisky lately, and then I have to go and tell him I can feel baby's skull in there. :P

Her head felt so little to me, but she's measuring a little small anyway. I guess that's a good thing for me Yeah, dh is a little more hesitant to do anything now that he knows her head is right there.

Ditto on the DH note, we went for our CNM appointment today, and found out I am 1-2 cm and the CNM could feel her head. He was in total shock. So if we're not going to DTD, might as well load up on spicy Thai and pineapple!

I was going to say- don't tell DH you can feel the baby's head. I think it's so cool too to know the baby is so close, but it sure freaks the guys out! My baby is posterior too, so I feel the baby's head first, and then my cervix. In fact for a long time I couldn't feel my cervix at all because baby was so posterior. I'm hoping the fact that I can reach it now means s/he's in a slightly better position! I can still push the head up a little too. I'm about 3.5 cm dilated, only one more week until my due date, but I've walked around 4 cm with both of my last 2 for at least 2 weeks, so unfortunately that much progress doesn't mean much for this mama!

i have been havinga hard time finding my cervix. I have short fingers.. clearly..

I wish I could tell if I was dilated or not.
that is sucha neat story!

AH, that's so cool! A little freaky, but cool
I can't reach my cervix.
I have a midwife appointment this afternoon though and I'm gonna get her to check me.
Last week I told her not to bother cause I didn't feel like anything different was going on. But on Saturday, I swear, I felt the baby drop!
It was the weirdest feeling. I told hubby it felt like someone dropped a pool ball from the top of my stomach into my vagina.
Movements are definetly lower and I can feel my ribs again!
No more heartburn really either, which is really nice!
Every time he moves now though it feels like he's so far down.
I keep getting nervous that with any movement my water's gonna break!
I'm 39 weeks 2 days today so hopefully there'll be some change when we check today!
WOOOHOOO, we're all so close!

WOW!!!

I'm another one who has short arms and short fingers, so I can't picture myself checking myself successfully.

I have to reach WAAAY up and even then I can really only brush it, not feel it enough to tell what's going on...

That is so cool though!

This thread inspired me to check last night... it's only the 2nd time I've checked recently although I used to check all the time when TTC. I am so confused about what I am feeling... towards the front side is this firm, rounded ridge that starts almost right away. I've never had that before. If I go back as far as I can go I can't find a thing. Normally I can reach the opening of my cervix. I had DH check and he thinks he feels baby's head, which seems right because we were told when I was checked by the OB at 36 weeks that the head was "right there." And I know that when the OB checked me he went in fairly deep... so I guess my cervix is back there somewhere... but what is that hard ridge thing that I am feeling? Is it just some other body part that has gotten rearranged along with the rest of them?

Now that I am accustomed to doing cervix checks on myself (which I was way too squeamish to do in my first pregnancy) I am annoyed that I can't figure it out because everything seems so different from its not pregnant state!!

Anyway, Christy, that is cool... hope it means you are close to meeting her!

LOL! Me, too! I've never done it before, so I had to read up I think I'm feeling a soft, but elongated cervix. My fingers are pretty short, so I couldn't tell if I was dilated at all, but due to how long it was, I'm guessing not.
