I love you, MDC, I really do, but - Page 3

I've been trying to read page 2 of this thread for about 2 hours! Every 20 minutes or so I come in and try to reload the page. It timed out several times and then I got a database error. Its been the worst its ever been for me the past week.

I've seen a big jump the last couple weeks in traffic on another similar board I read...

Do any of the Mothering admins know about this? Can one of the mods maybe contact them. I'm not going to be coming back anymore if this stays like this because it took me 5 minutes just to get onto the board from the home page.

Yup, they know. They're having the same issues, and are hating it just as much as everyone else (if not more).

it makes me wonder if the only reason nothing is being done because the people who chat here for free take second rank to the others who buy the magazine or in some other way make money for the company... (not to say that some of the people on MDC also get the mag)

just saying... :

It happens to me more often than not and has as long as I've lurked, long before I registered, and it is frustrating enough that I've been actively looking for an alternative since I haven't been here long enough to become fully entrenched.

I've seen this problem destroy more than one community, so I hope they're able to resolve it before it affects the bottom line.

I wonder if the companies and people who pay for advertising on the site are aware of the problems people are having at getting on the site. If no one can see their ads because they can't get on the site, I can't imagine they'd want to continue buying space - at least not until the issue is resolved.

I agree too. When you are paying to have someone see your ad and you can't even get on to post it just seems really pointless to even spend the money when there are other forums that don't have server problems as much as mdc does.

p.s. I am glad I copied this post before I clicked submit because guess what the server was taking to long!!!

Yeah, what's going on? The site was "behaving" so good for a while, and now in the last few days it went wonky again. It's so frustrating!

I don't need to add anything, it's all been said. But I figured if enough people complained maybe something would change.

It's been better for me recently. Sometimes still just a bit slow to open up pages, but definitely better!

So I've been reading and I understand that the admins are aware of the problem and that they hate it too. So...what exactly does that mean?

Are they working on a solution?

Is there not enough money for a solution?

What's the deal?

Have you made some changes or am I just lucky?

Their servers are undoubtedly an unspeakable nightmare that are affecting my state of general well-being. Totally crapped on :

Of course they are working on it.

just adding my frustrations to the list. sometimes i just give up and walk away.

What I don't get about "they are working on it" is... fixing a server does not take a year. Really, it doesn't. If there is not a FT person who works with servers, then you hire a contractor, and they spend a day evaluating a problem (okay.. a WEEK), and then they spend a day coming up with a plan (okay... ANOTHER WEEK), and then they reinstall the hardware, and software as needed (okay... ANOTHER TWO WEEKS).

A month is more than enough time to do it. No respectable company will allow themselves to have such website problems for more than a day. It's beyond my understanding how it can be allowed to continue for this long here. Truly.

Thanks for updating the thread, Irish, we don't know what's going on if no one tells us.

Do they need more people to purchase supporting memberships?

Although, it doesn't seem like the ads, TP charges and supporting memberships have improved things any, but please let us know if more funding would buy a better server.

We love our MDC!
