BFing in MA?

Hi Everyone,

I'm a SAHM from San Jose, CA. I've been exclusivly BFing DD and plan to until she self-weans. We're moving to MA (Cambridge, actually) and am a bit alarmed that MA doesn't have laws protecting BFing moms in public. Will I have to cover up? I don't cover up here, but we live in a somewhat cruchy-tolerant area.

Any MA mommas?

It's true, there aren't any laws...yet. BUT there is a lot going on as far as advocacy in MA (home of Ban The Bags). I would encourage you to join the Mass. Breastfeeding Coalition and get in on it! I just got back from the regional LLL conference, and I went to a session with Marsha Walker regarding breastfeeding in public. There are currently something like 5 bills in the legislature (I think the one of them has a chance at passing is S2438, which was recently engrossed by the Senate and is currently in the House Ways and Means Committee).

umm, cambridge is one of the crunchiest places in the country ... you won't have to cover up anywhere around Boston (I mean, you don't have to cover up anyway, but no one will bother you I'm sure) HOWEVER I don't ever really see alot of nursing moms there (compared to Canada). Whenever I go home I feel like a freak!
