what should I do now? (debt ?)

Recently, I sent the full payment in for an old bill. I sent it certified mail and even tho the post office notified the company 3 times that they had a certified letter to sign for, the company never picked up the envelope. The post office returned the letter to me last week.

I had written the company prior to the certified letter letting them know to expect a payment. I googled, but I can't find info on what to do next. I know that if a company refuses payment, it can be considered paid in full or something, but I don't know the particulars.

What should I do now? I don't want this to go to collections, but if it does...I tried to pay it already. I don't want to waste another $5 trying to send the payment certified mail if they're not going to sign for it. Is there a website that could help me? I want to be done with this bill already.

TIA for any advice.

Can't you call them and pay over the phone?

can you not use the normal mail? Why does it need to be sent certified?

You send certified so that when they take you to court later claiming that you never made the payment, you can show the judge your copy of the letter and proof that the USPS delivered it to them.

Even better is if you use a money order and have evidence that it was cashed.

I would send it again - but call first and get the correct address.

If they still refuse to accept payment by MO or Cashier's Check, then ask if they will take payment by credit card, and get a preloaded card of that exact amount. It will cost you a little bit because of the service charge to load the card, but at least they won't have access to YOUR money.

Thanks. =)

I'm paying by bank draft (like a cashier's check), so I have proof of that. (The part I get to keep.)

I'll resend it next week.
