I was so excited to switch our soaps to Dr. Bronners. I noticed that I'm getting a build up (repelling water) on the sink and in the shower. I'm assuming its the oils. I'm wondering now--are we really washing the germs off after say using the bathroom since this stuff obviously doesn't rinse clean? I'm concerned too about clean up and will my shower get sticky?

I never used Dr. B's for soap in the shower, but I used to make our own foaming hand soap out of it and we had the same exact problem. DH finally asked if we could get something different because the film build-up was so gross.
On a side note, I use Dr. B's straight up to clean my tub and I don't get a film, but then again I'm scrubbing the tub good with a green scratchy and rinsing really well...

I add a little oxy clean to my dr. Bronner's mix and it cuts through grease. I haven't noticed a build up yet.

'tis the nature of pure soap. something you have to decide if the pros outweigh the cons...do i want pure soap that causes a little soap scum, or do i want a "soap" made with man-made detergents and no soap scum?

Oh I'm so glad someone finally mentioned this! We stopped using it in the foaming pump for the same reasons. I couldn't understand why all I ever see here is how great it is for foaming pumps and I absolutely hated it. I guess if you wash your sink really frequently it wouldn't be much of an issue.

sbgrace, we WERE using Seventh Generation dishsoap with some added EO's (lavender, tea tree) for antibacterial purposes. We LOVED it because it never dried out our hands. Then I found out that the Seventh Gen. dishsoap has dioxane in it and now I'm on a mission to find something new. As far as what we use in the shower, we use soap and shampoo bars from Chagrin Valley. Not all their ingrediants are organic, but they are natural and we love them. I've never had a scum problem using them.

We don't use bronner in the shower, but when we did we would sometimes sprinkle some Baking soda in our hand with the soap before we lathered up. This makes it rinse really clean. DD does this on the back of her legs, where we sometimes get bumps from the elastic in our panties. This keeps that area bump-free. It also helps our faces stay clear.

Ah ha, now I know why we have such insane soap scum. I make my own body wash and it contains Dr. B.
Our tub needs cleaned at least twice a week just so it doesn't totally gross me out when I bath ds. (the adults shower)
