Born: March 26, 5:03 AM
Stats: 7 lbs, 20 inches
Nicknames: Hedgehog, Squeakers
Labor & Delivery Summary: Induced at 38 weeks, March 25, at 4:00 PM due to high BP. Took them an hour (and 11 pokes) to get me on a freakin' saline drip. Placenta abrupted during pushing. Vacuumed-assisted delivery.
Long verison
It all started Friday 21st, those of you who have been following my family reunion saga, know the deal, but for those who of you who don’t: my in-laws decided it would be swell to visit while I’m 38 weeks pregnant and expected me to actually do things. They finally left Sunday morning (Easter), leaving their germs behind. Sunday evening DH and I headed over to my parents’- my dad was out of town, he’s the cook- so, I helped out mom with dinner while my older sibling who are not pregnant, sat around. Monday, the cold the in-laws left behind finally hit hubby and I head on. Worse cold ever.
SO, when we went to our doctor appointment on Tuesday it was no surprise that my BP had raised to the point my doctor suggested an induction.
:
After the first dose I started to feel back discomfort- similar to those to get before AF. Though the discomfort was consistent (lasting 1 minute, every 5 minutes), I didn’t use any laboring techniques at this point because I wasn’t in “pain.”
At 7:00 they give me the second dose of gel. By 8:00 the discomfort becomes more like menstrual cramps. Contractions come every 3 minutes, lasting for 1 minute. I took a jet bath for awhile, started using breathing techniques, counting, squeezing random objects (like hubby’s hand, remote control, pillows) and eating a lot of Jolly Rancher suckers in-between.
At 9:00 my doctor comes in and says he would like to give me the third dose of gel, but it was my decision since my contractions were steady. I told him, “No, thanks.” Good thing too because my water broke an hour later; taking me from 4 cm to complete in another hour.
Although he was hoovered out- he has a beautiful, round head.
I'm so in love, mommas!
Best wishes to all you mommas still waiting for your LOs. They are worth the wait!

Laboring
We went to the hospital for further tests and consultation. We decided to go ahead with the induction. They started me on the first dose of gel at 5:00 pm. The poor nurse had to put me on a saline drip… she poked me 9 times and couldn’t get it… then another nurse came in and poked me three more times before succeeding. I look like I shoot up.

Delivery
After laboring down, I get the okay to start pushing. After pushing for awhile the placenta abrupts causing the nurse to panic and call the doctor. The doctor tells me that we need to get the baby out. He'll try vacuuming then if that doesn't work c-section. No freakin' way was I having a c-section. SO, I pushed really hard and ended up with a 4th degree tear BUT I got my son and my vaginal birth. BOO-YA!Although he was hoovered out- he has a beautiful, round head.
