How many frozen pads did you make?

Anyone making frozen PP pads, how many do you feel would be sufficient?

Also, did you put anything on them besides witch hazel (and water)?

I made ten comfrey tea pads because that is how many would fit on a cookie sheet in the freezer. However, I do have a question. If they are saturated with tea (or witch hazle or whatever) how do they contain the lochia? Am I missing something?

MY last two were hospital births, and the way I did it was fold up a small sized chux pad kinda thing and place that over (i think it was) the frozen pad in a mesh panty.

I made 6 pads with just witchhazel on them. I figure I could always make more but didn't want to use up my package of disposable pads too fast.

Good one, I didn't even think of that!
I'm using comfrey tea and witch hazel
Trying to find witch hazel with NO ALCOHOL in it! (<-----yowza)

I guess maybe you can't completely saturate the pads, just dampen them?

I *think* they're not supposed to be fully saturated so they don't leak everywhere when they melt, and also so they can contain other stuff. My impression was that you just squirt on a bit, rather than dunking them in the mixture

Crashing from May....
I made mine quite wet before I froze them....so to catch other fluids I'm going to wear Depends with the frozen pad for the first 1-3 days. So that way any wetness from the frozen pad(and other fluids) will go into the Depends. I'm hoping this will work. Take Care, Julie

I made six with a blend of herbs, I only dampened them. The herbs that i used are from a PP sitz bath tea mix.

dh made mine after I went into labor. He just cut up an old (clean) towell and soaked the pieces in witch hazel. He also made a few of the condom frozen packs (which were the perfect size).
And yes, you have to wear other protection to keep you from getting all wet, or use the pad and sit on a chux.

I ended up not needing anything after the first day. My dh said I didn't even look like I'd just given birth the day after.

yeah everything i've heard/read is to just dampen them, not soak them.
I also read to form them to your body FIRST before freezing because otherwise its like putting cardboard in your pants.

Before my last birth my MW told me to get the pads fairly saturated with the liquid before freezing. Then after I gave birth and used the frozen pad, I'd sit on a chux pad. It worked really well in the sense that I was more comfortable and the mess was contained on the chux pad, but overall was fairly messy but the first few days after giving birth always are!
