Question on pph and placenta

I've heard it said more than once that there's been no known cases of pph requiring transfusion (or was it transport? don't remember) when mom has had immediately consumed some of her placenta. It was phrased in such a way as to make it sound like they were thinking of cases where mom losing more blood than they wanted, she then consumed (or stuck in her cheeck, etc) a chunck of placenta, and proper clamping down, or expulsion of small retained parts, or whatever needed to happen, quickly happened, and all was fine.

Has this been the experience of the m/w's here? Has anyone specifically used the placenta to stop or control pph bleeding, and had it NOT work?

THANKS!

to be honest I have not noticed that eating the placenta has made a difference as far as hemorrhage goes.
Something to note is that for the most of the worst bleeds I have seen are in women where the placenta hasn't delivered yet-

We had a client a couple months ago chew on a couple pieces of her placenta to stop her bleeding. This was her fourth baby, and she had a hx of PPH, and sure enough, she did it again. She was adament about not getting a shot of pit and wanted the placenta to chew on instead. It took two separate pieces and a whole lot of fundal pressure to get her bleeding under control, but it did work.
