natural tick repellent for dogs

Help!! I so desparately need something!!

Our yard is *full* of ticks due to the woods behind us. Last fall the dog would go out to pee and come in with them all over him. Dd loves to play and cuddle with him and we had to keep her completely away from him for a month or so. We even resorted to Frontline - just keeping the dog in the bathroom or outside for most of the next 24 hrs. Then we bathed him and scrubbed the bathroom floors - all that so dd could pet him and not get the toxins on her. So anyway, the ticks laughed at Frontline. Didn't do much at all! I know you still can find them on the dog but they are supp to die right away - we still found fat ones!

Just FYI - he's on a raw diet and healthy. Our snow has barely been gone and we are already finding ticks on him tho! We will be getting chicks soon and as they grow I know they will take care of some, but we have over 2 acres.

So what in the world can we do to protect ourselves??????

I HATE ticks!!!

Hoping someone has some good ideas.... please....

Hi there....despite being thoroughly crunchy and all that I still use frontline on the dogs, I just can´t find anything that will help naturally, they are persistant lil critters.

BTW even frontline will not kill them instantly, as I understand it is supposed to kill them within 48hrs, so yes even then you will still get ticks on your dog. I think in your case you may well have not helped by washing the dog, once the patch where you put the frontline is dry, I think it is "ok" to touch them again. Of course no one likes nasties in their house, but if you´re gonna use them in extreme circumstances, it´s futile to not let them work KWIM?

And though frontline is effective for fleas for 2 months, they only guarantee it against ticks for a month.

Gonna watch this thread closely cos its justed hotted up here and my dogs and starting to get them too.....

The frontline says you are supposed to be able to bathe the dog after 24 hours because by then it's soaked into the layer of fat under their skin. That's important to me because he has thick fur, and spread it as we may, the frontline still leaves a yucky, smelly mark on his fur near his shoulders - right where dd loves to hug him.

I wonder if there is some sort of nematode that kills ticks on lawns like there is for fleas....
