Loom knitting mamas!

Thread Starter
There was a loom knitting thread a while back, but it seems to have died out... And just when I can join in! So I thought I'd start another one. Looming is my only craft. Needle knitting... Sadly, I never could get the hang of it, but I couldn't do it now if you paid me--carpal tunnel and arthritis. I can't crochet either for the same reason, though if I could snap on someone else's hands and use my brain for it, that'd work!

So, how did you start looming? (I don't remember, even though I haven't been looming long...)
How did you learn? Online and read Isela Phelps' Loom Knitting Primer,. also Round Loom Knitting Patterns from In the Attic.
What do you make? charity items, mainly blankets right now.
What do you wish you could do? ...??
What looms do you have? Knifty Knitter long set and spool, In the Attic rounds, and soon an afghan loom! (Have a Kiss loom too, but getting rid of it b/c the gauge is too hard to work with for me.)
Anything else you want to share? DS loves to play with my spoolknitter and the resulting cord/tubes!

I hope this thread takes off... There are a ton of Yahoo groups for loomers, but it would be nice to gather upp all the looming MDC mamas in one place!

BUMP!
No looming mamas here?! That can't be...

I did for a bit, while I was stubbornly refusing to learn to use needles. I still have my looms and I've made a few longies/leggings on them. Not much recently though. I'm thinking of doing some charity knitting, I guess the smallest knifty knitter would still be too big for a preemie hat though, huh?

Well, I knit, crochet, sew, felt, and make soap. Among other things!!! I also knit on a knitting board. So, I'm not a "knitting purist" or used it as a stepping stone - I knew how to knit with needles before I learned how to loom knit!

So, how did you start looming? started last fall when we won a board ats a door prize at a local alpaca fair! we now have 2 boards and 1 loom - thinking of getting another board. DH took it over and started knitting beautiful warm wool scarves - and started selling them. It was great.

How did you learn? Online. The board also came with easy instructions.

What do you make? scarves, scarves and more scarves. little neck button scarflettes, long skinny scarves, loopy scarves, and warm, thick scarves.

What do you wish you could do? I wish dh would learn to make longies and shorties......

What looms do you have? I'll look it up....

Anything else you want to share? I am a *really* crafty person and I find it saddening when people say that looming is not as good as "x". I love our knitting boards and love crafts on them. I also love knitting and crocheting. They all have their place for me. Ok. Off soapbox.

I got into loom knitting through a friend. She was making adorable baby hats and I have some sort of mental block when it comes to needle knitting (I have horrible hand eye corrdination) so looms work well for me. I only just started made an itty bitty hat to practice on...I'm now knitting a hat for my sweet boy

My mom and my friend are both going to sit down with me and FORCE me to learn how to knit with needles (remove the mental block, I really want to learn, I just need someone really really really patient to sit down and help me)

I want to figure out how to loom knit a blanket for my DH's cousin who is having a baby in November.

And we're dirt floor poor so I wanna start buying some yarn and I'm going to knit hats for all the babies for Christmas, and maybe scarves for the adults we have to buy for (my mom, brother, etc) and whichever cousin we have to buy for (family drawing) is going to get a scarf or a hat.

I wish I could do lots of stuff, I have lots of 'plans' for Christmas using either the needles if I ever figure them out or the loom I hate dealing with the mall and all that that entails so I'd MUCH rather buzz out to the craft store uptown thats always deserted, pick up some yarn and sit on my bum knitting once the kiddos are asleep listening to some good music on my iPod

Anyone still around?

I can knit, slowly, but I just discovered knifty knitting. It's so fast! I am having a hard time finding simple starter patterns and instructions online (and I just got this big S shaped Serenity thing with no real plans for it). I seem to be able to keep up with it better than I can knitting with needles.

Anyone have any good online resources?

www.loomknit.com
www.provocraft.com (click on knifty knitter)

They have several patterns for the looms. Not sure about the S shaped one, I haven't tried it, I only have the long loom and the round loom...and I'm totally lazy and just make sweaters and hats on them.

I love my knitting looms. I just started using them a couple months ago. So far I've made a few shopping bags, a scarf, and a shrug. Not sure what I'll do next. I can't figure out knitting with needles. I did however, just figure out crochet.

I'm just starting out with the loom knitting. We've had the round Knifty Knitter set for a couple of years, so I figured I ought to learn to use them. So far I've made exactly 1 baby leg warmer, 1 hat, 1 scarf and I'm currently working on a set of mittens. I'm trying to practice with my cheap yarn before I spend money on the nice stuff at JoAnn's.

Oh, I also have the long purple rectangle loom from KK, but I haven't tried it yet. I think it's mostly for scarves and blankets, but I've lost the little instruction booklet. I don't think I'm ready for any long projects just yet.

Here's a website with free patterns. It's where I found the mitten pattern.

I just picked up Provo Craft's smallest knitting spool. I want to make a "braided rug" with it. I also figure you can do any crochet project that qould require a Q-Hook with it, like baskets.

There is a SERIOUS lack of resources online for using these things. It's a shame!
