outdoor slide

Has anyone made a slide? I can't find any information anywhere. I looked at metal sheets and they would be more expensive than buying a premade slide, so metal is probably out. I'm wondering if there is a way to use wood, sanding it very smooth and then coating it with ... something... to prevent splinters and make it weatherproof.

You could use masonite. It's very smooth on one side. It's not super thick so you would want to put plywood under it for strength. It's what they used on those cool platform slides before they were all made out of plastic.

Thanks for the great idea! I think that might work, if I can weatherproof it really well.

I briefly thought of going to a junk yard and getting the hood of a car or the roof or something, but I'm no metal worker. That would probably be a fairly cheap source of metal, though. Metal gets super hot in the summer, though. The masonite or painted wood might be a better alternative. I'm all about bypassing spending a huge hunk of change on a huge hunk of new plastic! Bleahh!

ooo! I came across this website just now (http://www.scaryguys.com/) and a line on it sparked a thought. They mention a medical gurney. If you have a state surplus or university surplus near you they often have stuff like that. Maybe an old metal door?

What about a tarp to go over it?
