I have a 3 month old breastfed baby girl who seems to be constipated. She has reflux and has been on zantac for the past few months. One of the side effects of zantac is constipation and she is quite constipated. She is only having 1-2 bowl movements a week, is very very gassy and uncomfortable. Yes, I know this can be common for breastfed babys but she is trying and trying to move her bowels and can't.

What can I do?

I have tried weaning her off the zantac and she is not ready. I gave her apple juice and slippery elm powder last evening only to have a fussy. more gassy baby until 1am. She is so uncomfortable. My pediatrician advised us not to help her along with infant glycerin suppositories as she could become to dependent on them. Any advice would so greatly be appreciated.
