Making butter more spreadable?

I heard/read somewhere here to mix your butter with a little bit of oil to make it more spreadable. What oil was it? Sunflower? I can not remember for the life of me.

Also, does anyone have one of those butter crocks? Would this help make it softer. This is my big beef with butter lol, when it's cold old, it's rock hard!

i have a butter bell. http://www.etsy.com/view_transaction...ion_id=7694394

you pack the butter into the top and put a little water in the bottom. the water makes an air tight seal that keeps the butter fresh at room temp so it's spreadable. i love it.

(not a TF person, but...)

Any mild tasting oil that is liquid at room temperature will work to make a soft buttery spread mixed 50/50 with butter. Pick the one that you feel is the healthiest. Olive oil and butter make a KILLER spread for savory things.

My butter is always out on the counter too, but it's still pretty hard. I keep it on top of my stove so it gets softer when I'm cooking, but sometimes I melt it

It's pretty chilly here and we keep our furnace turned down, so I think that makes it harder. Must anyways.
