what to use to grease pans

What can I use as an alternative to either non-stick spray or Crisco? Both concern me, but whenever I use just oil, things stick like crazy! What do you do?
Thanks!

We never used Crisco in my house--always used butter for greasing baking pans.

Coconut oil works really well with a pastry brush.

TBH though, I don't have a sticking problem at all since I got rid of all my cheap pans, and most of the time i don't bother to grease anything. The only things that really sticks anymore is eggs in a skillet, or my glass bundt pan.

Butter here too, but I never even thought of CO, that would be great too!

Butter works great or olive oil.

I use butter but I'll try coconut oil next time, sounds interesting.

I use earth balance. I keep empty wrappers and use them to grease pans.

I use palm shortening. It's great! Got it at Tropical Traditions.

Get an oil mister that you pump and fill it with whatever kind of liquid oil you like (olive or whatever). You can use it just like Pam, but it's refillable and doesn't have propellant in it.

It never occurred to me that non-stick spray is bad. It's bad? Oh, I'll bet it's aerosol, isn't it? Shoot! So where would one find an oil mister?

Mandy, we use Earth Balance for other things. So when you say you save empty wrappers and use them, what exactly do you mean? Do you store empty wrappers in the refrigerator? Then is there enough "residue" left on a wrapper to grease a pan?

Read the list of ingredients some time. You probably don't want to be eating the things that aren't oil.

My main problem with oil misters is that I haven't been able to find a single one that didn't have my oil sitting in a plastic bottle, leaching chemicals.

I use an oil-sprayer converter/pump and we put our own organic olive oil in it, would that work for you?

There is a recipe (more like a combination of two things) in Laurel's bread book that is recommended for greasing bread pans, to use in place of shortening. I'll look it up tonight and post it tomorrow, unless someone else is faster and post it first.

I use palm shortening. I just use my bare hands, then rub the excess into my skin. That's for baking. For cooking on the stovetop I use olive oil. No sprayer, I just pour a little in the pan and spread around with a metal spatula, or my fingers if the pan is not already hot (olive oil is a great skin moisturizer, too!)
Using well-seasoned cast iron, you only need a little oil. Oh, after cleaning the cast iron I rub in a little of the palm shortening before putting it away.

Another palm shortening or coconut oil user here! I've been using palm shortening though lately a lot though because I ordered a 4-pack of the Spectrum brand on Amazon and one of the containers arrived damaged so they mailed me another 4-pack for free and now I have enough to last the year!
