I just made grilled chesse on sourdough. I used kerigold cheese (bought a huge slab of it for 10 bucks at costco) and kerigold butter to grill them in.

They came out very good but I couldnt help but wonder while I ate if this is a bad thing if i'm trying to control weight. All the cheese and melted butter oozing.

The only part I'd worry about personally is the simple carb content of the bread. Our bodies are designed to convert carbs into quick energy (especially so with refined flours, if the sourdough in question was store-bought) but if we don't live active lifestyles and burn up those calories right away, our bodies store the calories from simple carbs as fat reserves.

But fats and proteins are digested slowly, giving us long-lasting energy. They also help us feel full, which tends to reduce our overall calorie intake. So I'd say if you loaded up your bread with nutritious butter and cheese, you probably won't eat enough bread to interfere with your weight loss goals

I'm starting to think that the caloric content of food doesn't matter as much as the nutrient dense quality. If you provide your body as many nutrients as it needs in a certain amount of food it isn't going to ask for more. That's why I think TF foods are so satisfying - you get plenty of bang for your buck so to speak.

Empty calories are the ones to cut out since they're not doing you any good and they take minerals from your stores to digest and use.

I wouldn't consider your sandwich empty calories!

Sourdough bread is actually a 'good' bread. If you are going to have bread with a high fat food like cheese, sourdough is the one to have.
