Ugh - Page 2

ITA, I don't see the relationship between vandalism & censorship and lactivism.

How about instead including a post it note with a better reference? "See Nightime Parenting by Dr. Sears for a different view on infant developmental needs."

Tearing pages out of library books is wrong, no matter what your intention.

eh, i don't feel any remorse I figured someone would leave a comment like this...

They might not even notice if no one complains. I've gotten novels from my library with pages missing and have never been asked about the missing pages when I return them.

I've also returned books with loose pages (my fault for bending the spine too far) and they've never said a word.

That being said, writing in that the information on the page can kill babies is probably better--use ink.

They can't check every book that's returned for damage. To a certain extent, libraries rely on patrons to report damage. If a damage is discovered, the book may get replaced, spending money that could otherwise have been spent on, oh, I dunno, a breastfeeding book, maybe.

I have a big problem with the censorship aspect of it. Freedom from insidious censorship is much higher priority to me than the thought that someone might read an opinion I don't agree with in a library book.

I will probably get flamed for this, but I disagree with the OP's "modification" of the library book. Big time.

Mothers searching for a parenting style should be able to research ALL opinions and options; not just those that the OP agrees with. By removing the "offending" information from a public knowledge source such as a library book, the OP discredits the entire attachment parenting movement.

Knowledge should be free and open to all. Censoring that book limits women's choices (whether the OP agrees with those choices or not). We should all work together to give women MORE choices, not take them away.

IMHO, the OP should replace the library book at her own cost. If she feels that strongly about its content, she should also purchase and donate a few "better" parenting books to sit beside the stinker book on the same library shelf.

I would have ripped it, I just could not have helped myself. Sorry. How horrible to tell someone to do that to a baby! Yikes!

i'm sorry but i find this humorous! It was just ONE page...i didn't censor anything...it was a very random page at that (although i know this is not your point but just want to add...the book is about teaching children based on biological gender differences and then all the sudden jumps to parenting and instilling harsh dicipline on 4 month olds...again i know your point isn't that you agree with the information, but just wanted to add that...

also, it was a complete whim liek EW WHY IS THIS IN HERE RIIIIIp

i in NO way feel it is my duty to replace the book...in all honest i've borrowed many books from the library that have pages/even whole sections missing....

ANYWAY, i just thought it was a funny moment, but since some of you are perfect and would never deface a book even if it encourages child abuse i guess that's your prerogative and I'm sorry if you are offended.

i'm glad some of you feel the same

I'll add to the votes of A) not destroying library books, and b) not censoring anyone. Even one page is your personal choice to sensor everyone else who reads that book, and it is not an act of lactivism....

At this point, I'm going to close the thread. We don't host threads that encourage illegal activity, and I'm fairly certain destruction of property is a .
