My low self-esteem "item" is my marriage. : Rather, the last vestiges of it, those being Mike. Ugh, I feel ridiculous even admitting that... and absolutely *exposed*. It's not a popular sentiment on MDC, there's a lot of negativity surrounding such ideas (perhaps I'm not the only one with self-esteem issues related to my primary adult relationship). I guess I'll spare myself some criticism and not go into detail here, but that's a really hard thing to completely disconnect... or even to admit that I *need* to disconnect.
hugs to you. Its always about us, not them. So just try working on you and not expecting others to treat you any other way then you deserve to be treated. BUT with saying that, you can not expect someone else to treat you any different or better then you treat you love you, and treat you special. Do what brings you joy and work on you. that is the ONLY person you can change.!
Blessings to you

I'm working on my affirmations now. Last year I wrote a sentence or three to describe affirmatively what I desired to be in each of the bagua areas and it worked really well. It helps me a lot to have a positive message about what I'm doing, where I'm going.

The only problem I'm having is that I'm trying to write positive sentences that don't trap me in negative side-effects, which is hard.

eilonwy,
When I made my map last year I was separated from my boyfriend. I had decided that I was done with him and his depression. So on my map I put the affirmation "I love truly, fully, and deeply and am loved truly, fully and deeply in return", pictures of happy, affectionate couples and the quote from a magazine "This is what real love looks like." I was not thinking about trying to change my boyfriend, I just knew what I wanted and deserved in my life. And I found it. In my boyfriend. We came back together and our relationship became much more loving and affectionate and close and we've gone through some terrible times with his depression but we've made it through.

So, maybe focusing on the kind of love you want would be helpful.

"I will be thin."

see that is in the future. Versus...

That is NOW.

Go for now.

here's a nice link to last year's thread where Fek&Fuz did some nice affirmations... just to give you a taste..

I love my affirmations last year. And pretty much every single one of them is now true. Strangely, when i went to write up my affirmations this year, nothing came to me. So it will be images for now, and maybe affirmations added tomorrow or Tuesday.

SO well, Tracy!!!!! I have been using it on all my sugar/chocolate foods and OH MAN! My ending-sugar-addicition ("being free of sugar") issue on last year's map started coming to fruition in the final hours before new!!!

I was actually with a friend late last night (2 hours before new started on the east coast) and had NO desire to eat junkie sweets when she suggested doing so when we stopped for gas. I mean, this was an opportunity to be totally enabled and encouraged and "accepted" for my bad habits because she and I lament this problem together and I had no desire!!!!

Oh, and did you, or anyone who saw it, think it looked like the lady with the sugar problem might have also been using it for exercise? I couldn't tell if she was pinching her fingers together on the treadmill because she was craving chocolate then, or if you can adapt it for other situations in life, such as feeling good about exercise, but I'm slotted to try that one next! I just think the food would be easier - the situations (like exercise) seem much more complex, so I don't know how well I will work out any kinks but I'm game to try!

Can someone link me to some sample affirmations that are not limiting? For example, I've been thinking about affirmations relating to my job. So I was thinking of specific affirmations to help me improve in my job. But I realized that what I REALLY want is to stay home with my kids. So I'll probably use a more general affirmation.

You could do something like "My work fulfills me and is a benefit to the world." That could apply to either an out of home job, or to staying home and raising your kids.

I find it easiest when I am in that cycle of limiting affirmations to list the qualities that describe the feelings I want...so, example for job:

Some of the things I currently dislike might be: Hate boss, feel trapped and unable to express my creativity, inflexible hours, kids in daycare - shuffling/hurrying to get breakfast run them to care, rush to work, etc, low pay, unstimulating work, don't feel impassioned about what I'm doing, so I list:

freedom, ability to express my passions and talents, handsomely/abundantly rewarded for my talents, flexibility, compatibility with family life, energizing, worthwhile, beneficial and rewarding dialogues with boss, encouraging coworkers with whom I have a cooperative team spirit, fluidity in my daily schedule, efficient/productive (could be for work relations or for the work itself) and on and on.

Then I plug them into "I have...." and "I feel..." and "I am..." or "My work is..." "My business interactions are..."

Subbing! Things in my life are very chaotic at the moment, but I'm going to force myself to find the time to create a map for this year. I made one last year and I'm so glad I did!

How long should my affirmations be? I feel like this year's are too long for the "rules." Should I edit them down? I was thinking I might. Last year's were simpler.

Mine are usually a sentence. Or 2.

My affirmations are ready. These will go on my map. The visual part happens next.

Everything I need or want I have and am. I live without stress or worry. I am prepared for the future and supplied for the present.

I am admired and respected for my courage, honesty, and wisdom. I am well-liked and appreciated.

I am deeply in love with Jon. We share a profound connection which forms a strong foundation of acceptance, understanding, and respect. We live a life of mutual passion and devotion to core values.

I am a good mother and partner. I am gentle and caring. My family shares their love and vulnerabilities with me and we all support one another in our growth and endeavors.

I am strong and full of energy. I breathe deeply, move, and rest. I eat well, filling myself with the highest quality nutrition. My body is a source of power.

I am brilliant and energetic. My imagination is boundless and my projects come together well.

I love and respect myself. I recognize that my strengths and weaknesses are intertwined. I travel to new places that enlighten and inspire me.

My work life is successful, stimulating, and profitable. My work fits well into my family life. Everything gets done with ease and grace.

There are people in my life who offer unconditional love, support and encouragement for all my efforts. People I love come to my aid if necessary.

I am so excited. This is my first year doing a map. I went last night and bought magazines and sat up late with my dh going through them and taking out images. It was so fun. We have folders of our images that we are going to work on putting on our maps over the next couple days. Tomorrow is my birthday and this all feels so right. Tracy thanks so much for guiding us along.

I am doing the different baguas, putting each on a colored piece of construction paper, taking pictures and making a screen saver (thanks for that stolen idea), and then putting them all together on one map. The process of thinking clearly about what I want to create is half the fun!

I'm kinda wordy in general. Words work well for me. The affirmations won't be the center of the map though, they'll be there, but they represent the underlying idea of the image for me, so I can take time to read them if I want. So my question, I guess, is does it seem like a good idea to have them remain the length that they are now, or make them more succinct? Words speak to me.
